# Model Picker

Use the model picker to choose which models of your project are shown in your session, and which model is active.

The model picker is located in the top-left corner of the application, next to the project name. Click it to open the list of all models in this project you have access to.

## Showing and Hiding Models

Click the eye icon next to a model to show or hide it. When you show a model that is not loaded yet, it is loaded into your current session right away, so you don't need to reopen or reload Qonic to add a model to your session. A loading icon on the model thumbnail indicates that the model is still being loaded.

{% hint style="info" %}
Showing or hiding a model, or changing the active model, ends the tool you are using. If the tool has unsaved changes, Qonic asks you first.
{% endhint %}

## Active Model

You can set **one** model as the **active** model, meaning that new geometry will be added in this model. Click a model in the list to make it the active model; if the model was hidden, it is shown automatically. Double-click a model to make it the active model and zoom to it.

## Locking Models

Click the lock icon next to a model to temporarily lock it for the current session, to prevent accidental modifications. This lock is personal to you and does not affect other project members' access rights to these models. Click the lock icon again to unlock the model. The active model cannot be locked.

## Model Status

The list shows additional information about the state of each model:

* The **New** and **Edited** labels mark models that are new or have been edited.
* A model is marked as out of date when a new version of it has been published.
* A model with conflicting versions cannot be opened until the conflicting versions are resolved. Click the model for more information.
* A model that is still preprocessing, for example right after an upload, takes a few minutes to load. If you show it, Qonic loads it as soon as it is ready.

## Searching, Sorting and Creating Models

Use the search field at the top of the model picker to find a model by name. Click the sort button to sort the models by **Name**, **Created** or **Last Updated**, in ascending or descending order.

To create a new, empty model, click the **+** button at the top of the model picker. Give the model a name, optionally add tags, and choose the default access rights. The new model is created in your current session, without reloading Qonic. To create new models, you need at least the status of **Editor** in this project. Creating new models is not possible in sample projects.
