# Qonic AI

Qonic AI works inside your model: describe what you need in plain language, and its agents find, check and update elements for you.

Qonic AI works inside the model. Its agents find, check and update elements directly, using Qonic's own tools: completing missing properties, building reports, editing geometry and more. You stay in control: Qonic AI only changes models you are allowed to edit, and you can undo its changes like your own.

## Opening Qonic AI

Open a model, then click the sparkle button in the bottom-left corner of the 3D view, next to the left side panel. The Qonic AI chat opens; in the application, its panel is titled *Ask Qonic*. Click the button again to close it.

<div data-with-frame="true"><figure><img src="https://929210962-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FZKeCFTBZzqUt4lpmhUdS%2Fuploads%2FVTxEjCa3RazwVVfLjoqR%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=e69d10c8-0b44-4a4a-b9e9-06247594a0db" alt="" width="375"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

Describe what you need in plain language. Not sure where to start? When the chat is empty, the suggestions show what Qonic AI can do: *Find & filter*, *Show & hide*, *Properties*, *Quantities*, *Rooms & relations*, *Quality & reports*, *Planning*, *Edit elements*, *Draw & modify* and *Library & models*. *Planning* is only shown when the [Planning add-on](/getting-started/plans-and-add-ons.md#add-ons) is available in the project.

## Asking a Question

1. Type your question or instruction in the *Ask anything* field and send it.
2. Qonic AI answers in the chat and carries out your request in the 3D view: it selects, filters, shows or hides elements, or changes the model.
3. If your request is unclear, Qonic AI asks a follow-up question with suggestions you can click.

When an answer contains a table, click a row to select those elements in the model.

To stop an answer, click *Stop answering*. Changes that Qonic AI already made can stay applied. To start a new conversation, open the panel menu and click *Clear chat*.

Changes made by Qonic AI are added to your undo history, so you can [undo](/documentation/qonic-application/basics/user-interface-overview.md) them like your own changes.

## Choosing the AI Model

Use *Choose the AI model* in the panel to pick the model that answers your questions:

* **Standard**: fast everyday questions.
* **Advanced**: complex questions and reports.
* **Most capable**: advanced modelling work.

More capable models use more tokens per question. Hover over a model to see how many times more tokens it uses.

## Who Can Use Qonic AI

Anyone who can view the open models can ask questions. Qonic AI can only change models you are allowed to edit; for a read-only model, it tells you that it can't make changes.

## Tokens

Every question uses tokens from your organization's token balance. How many depends on the question and the AI model. When you work in a project of another organization, the tokens come from your own organization.

* When 10% or less of your tokens is left, organization owners see *Tokens running low* in the panel, with a *Top up* button.
* When your organization is *Out of tokens*, or has *No tokens yet*, you can't ask new questions. Organization owners can click *Top up* to buy tokens in *Plans and Billing*; other members need to contact an organization owner.

See [Tokens](/getting-started/plans-and-add-ons.md#tokens) for how tokens are included in your plan and how to buy them.

You can also work with Qonic from your own AI assistant, such as Claude, Codex or Mistral Le Chat. See [Connecting AI Assistants (MCP)](/documentation/qonic-application/data-and-collaboration/connecting-ai-assistants-mcp.md).
