Assign tasks to objects, create relations between these tasks and animate the construction sequence. Open the Planning panel by clicking the calendar icon the left side of your screen, or by using the Shift P shortcut. This will show a list of all plannings in the project. Here you can manage the different plannings or create a new one. ## Creating a planning Create a new planning by clicking the green + button at the bottom right of the panel.
### Creating a planning from scratch Click *From Scratch* to create a new empty planning. You can enter a name and a start date for this planning,
The planning will contain no tasks, so the timeline will appear empty. Click the green + button on the bottom right to create a new task.
This will open the task details panel. Here you can enter the following details: * The task name * Whether this task is part of a group * The duration of the task * The type of task: construction, demolition or temporary * The objects in this task. Use the browse panel to select a relevant group of objects, or select them manually in the model * Links to other tasks. Define predecessors and successors, their relation type and optionally a lag between the tasks.
Once the task is created, it will appear in the Gantt chart. When creating a second task, it will automatically be assigned as *following* the previous task, but this can still be edited.
Clicking the name of the linked task allows you to change it to predecessor or successor.
The setup in the screenshot above means that the Foundation Piles task is a preceding task to the current (Footing) task, with a Finish-Start relation and a lag of 2 days. In other words: the Footing task can only be **started** **2 days after** the Foundation Piles task has **finished**. In the Gantt chart this will look like this:
Click any task to display a panel showing that tasks details. Click the ellipsis next to the task name in the side panel or in the corner of this task details panel to find actions such as editing the details of this task, adding it to a group, deleting it, selecting all products of this task, or setting them in scope.
### Creating a planning from a preset To avoid having to manually create tasks for each group of products in your model, you can use the [Browse Panel](/documentation/qonic-application/querying-and-reporting/browse-panel.md) presets for a more structured approach. Head to the browse panel, create a new Preset and set it up to your requirements. In the example below, we want to create a planning of all **loadbearing** products, and split the tasks per **floor** and **IFC class**.
Once the preset is created, you can use it to create a new planning. In the Planning Panel, create a new planning and choose *From Preset*. In the Preset dropdown, select the preset you just created in the Browse panel.
You can now still change the order of the **lowest** grouping level of your preset. In our example case the lowest grouping level is IFC class, so we are given a list of all IFC classes that apply to the chosen preset. In our example, we want to first place piles, then footings, and then per floor: slabs > columns > walls > beams > stairs. Drag the cards so the order is more or less correct. Don't worry, you can still change the order between tasks once they are actually created.
Click *Create*. You have now created a planning that includes all products in the defined preset. In this case, all loadbearing products are included in this planning, and they are grouped per floor. Within each floor, each IFC class is now an individual task, and this task has been automatically assigned to all respective products. By default, a duration of **1 day** per task was assigned, as well as the default **construction** type, and a **Finish-Start** relation with **no lag** between the tasks.
Click the green + button in the bottom right corner to manually add tasks, groups or continue adding from other presets. ## Visualizing a planning Use the play controls on the bottom right of the panel start playing an animation of the construction sequence. This include settings such as a feature to automatically zoom to the products of the active task(s), and control over the playback speed.
You can also click the *Minimize* button in the top-right corner of the panel to reduce the entire planning panel to a more compact player, including play controls, an interactive timeline and some information about the currently playing tasks.
Alternatively, drag the playhead in the Gantt chart to manually go to a specific time.
When playing the animation or moving the playhead, the associated products will become (in)visible based on their task type: * Products assigned to **Construction** tasks will start off as invisible, and become visible as soon as that task is started * Products assigned to **Demolition** tasks will start off as visible, and become invisible as soon as that task is finished * Products assigned to **Temporary** tasks will start off as invisible, become visible as soon as that task is started but only for the duration of their task, after which they become invisible again. Selecting a task will outline all products of that task in the model in black. Additionally, products assigned to *predecessing* or *successing* tasks will be highlighted in *orange* and *blue* respectively. In the image below, the Wall task is selected; the products assigned to this Wall task are highlighted with a black outline, wheras the products assigned to the Slab task (predecessor) and the Column task (successor) are outlined in orange and blue.
The toolbar at thet op of the planning panel contains some additional options for customizing your view of the planning:
1. Search bar to filter on task names 2. Additional filter/view options: 1. Which tasks to show: 1. Show all tasks 2. Show only those tasks that have products assigned 3. Show only the groupings, not the individual tasks 4. Show only the tasks of products currently in scope 2. Sort the tasks by start/end date or in a custom order. When a custom order is displayed, you can reorder tasks by dragging their handle in the side panel 3. Group the tasks by custom groups or by task type (construction/demolition/temporary) 3. Quickly expand or collapse all groups 4. Automatically hide products which have a task assigned. This can be useful if you are manually assigning products to tasks as it allows you to see which products you haven't linked yet. 5. Zoom in on the timeline 6. Zoom out on the timeline ## Exporting a planning To export a planning, go back to the planning overview and under the ellipsis icon, click Export As. Currently supported formats are .xml and Primavera P6.
