# Introduction and Resources

Getting started with Qonic? Here you will find an overview of the different resources we have available to help you on your way.

In one sentence, Qonic is a high performance BIM Modelling platform for AEC collaboration in the cloud. Our ultimate goal is to support the entire BIM process from cradle to grave: from early design through tendering, construction and even facility management.

The current release of Qonic enables you to modify, correct and enrich existing BIM models for accurate quantity take off and easy sharing with the different stakeholders. # Key Concepts

This article explains some basic concepts of the Qonic platform to easily get you started.

## Cloud

Qonic is a cloud-based BIM modeler, meaning that all your models reside in the cloud. You don't need to worry about local files on your computer or sending BIM model files to other stakeholders using some file sharing platform or CDE; just sending a link of the model is enough. In the current release this means that an internet connection is required to use Qonic; in a future release it will also be possible to work offline.

## Data formats

The internal data schema used in Qonic is heavily based on - and therefore nearly identical to - the IFC schema. This means Qonic can read and write IFC without losing data. This also means you can use Qonic simply as an IFC editor, allowing you to modify both geometry and data in an IFC file.&#x20;

Qonic also reads Revit, Rhino and SketchUp files.

## Dashboard vs Application

Qonic consists of two separate environments; the [dashboard](#dashboard) where you manage your organization, projects, models, access rights and more, and the [application](#application) where you view and edit BIM models.&#x20;

### **Dashboard**

The dashboard is an environment that runs in the web browser, and can be accessed by going to [app.qonic.com](https://app.qonic.com/). It is the central place where you access projects and the information within those projects, such as models, libraries and reports. ### **Application**

The application is an environment that either runs in the web browser, or on a dedicated app installed on your system (Windows, Mac, Android and iOS are supported, see [qonic.com/downloads](https://www.qonic.com/downloads)). It is the 3D environment where you navigate in your models, view and query them, and make data and geometry modifications. > **Note:** The Qonic Desktop Application is designed to work in conjunction with the browser dashboard environment - it does not work as a completely standalone application at this moment. It is designed to be opened automatically from the dashboard if indicated by the user. Click [here](/other/faq#why-does-the-desktop-application-not-work) for more information.

## Access Rights

All actions and user interfaces in Qonic are based on access rights. If you do not have the right permissions perform a specific action, this action will be greyed out or simply not shown in the user interface. Access rights can be specified on three levels: [organization](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/your-organization), [project](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/projects) and [model](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/models).&#x20;


# Signing Up

Follow these steps to set up your account.

To sign up to Qonic, head to [app.qonic.com](https://app.qonic.com/). If you do not already have an account, you should see the following screen, asking you for your email address and a password. You can also sign up and log in using your personal Google or Microsoft account. Single Sign-On (SSO) for organizations is supported in the Enterprise [pricing](https://www.qonic.com/pricing/) tier.

In the next step, enter your full name and what your preferred language is. You can change this both later in your account settings once you are logged in.

If someone has already invited you to their organization before you signed up to Qonic, you should see an option to join their organization in the next step. Choose to join their organization or to create your own organization.&#x20;

If you chose the latter, you need to provide an organization name, industry and country. Once you have provided this you can continue and log in.&#x20;

# Qonic Dashboard

The dashboard is the central place where you access projects and the information within those projects, such as models, libraries and reports.

# Dashboard Overview

This article shows an overview of the Qonic Dashboard interface.

# Your Organization

Read this article to learn more about your organization in Qonic, how to invite team members and how to define organization roles.

When signing up to Qonic, you will either have received an invitation to join an existing organization, or you will create your own organization upon signup. Either way, your account is always part of an organization.

If you are owner of the organization you can manage organization settings by clicking your organization name at the top of the screen (1). Here you can manage organization name and logo (2), members (3), get an overview of all projects in your organization (4) and manage your Qonic plan and billing (5).

Add coworkers to your organization by going to the Organization Members tab (3) and clicking the green + button (6).

Once someone is invited to the organization, you can assign them a role (7):&#x20;

* **Owner:** can access all projects, manage organization settings, members and billing. Can create new projects
* **Member:** can access specified projects

Remove a user from your organization by right-clicking their name and clicking Remove. An organization must always have at least one Owner.

The Project Status tab (4) gives you a list of all projects (8) in your organization, including information about their project size (9), the number of project members (10), when was the last activity (11) and whether or not you are owner of the project (12). If you are not the project owner, you can join any project as owner by right-clicking it and clicking Join as Owner. Existing project owners will still retain their project ownership status.

# Projects

Read this article to learn more about projects in Qonic, how to create and manage projects, how to invite people to your projects and how to assign project roles.

Qonic allows you to keep your models and other assets organized by project.&#x20;

A project contains [models](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/models), drawings, [libraries](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/libraries) and [reports](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/reports), and can have multiple members across [organizations](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/your-organization).&#x20;

The name of your currently opened project is displayed next to your organization name (1). Clicking the project name will open an overview of all projects you have access to. You can search for a specific project name (2) and sort your projects by name, most recent activity or using a custom order (3). When using a custom order, drag around the projects in this overview by using the handles left of the project names (4). The project at the top of this list will open up by default the next time you open Qonic.

Projects that you are invited to as an external member (i.e. projects owner by **another organization** are indicated by the organization logo (5).&#x20;

If you are an [organization](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/your-organization) owner, you can create a new project by clicking the *New Project* button at the bottom of this list (6).&#x20;

In the bottom left corner you will find the project Members tab (7), project Settings (8) if you are a project owner, and the help center (9).

Click the Project Members tab (7) for an overview of all the members of the project. Every member (10) is listed as well as their email address (11), project role (12) and when they were last active in this project (13). The project members will be grouped by organization; external organizations will be indicated as shown in the image below.&#x20;

Project Owners can manage the members' project roles, as well as add new project members by clicking the green button at the top (14).&#x20;

Once project members are added, you can assign individual Project roles:

* **Member:** can access items such as models, schedules and libraries, but cannot create them
* **Editor:** can access and create project items such as new models, schedules and libraries
* **Owner:** can access, create new project items and manage members

Remove a user from your project by right-clicking their name.

Click the Settings tab (15) in the bottom left of the screen to manage project settings. The Project Details page (16) allows project owners to modify details such as the project name, location and size. You can also leave or delete a project here.

In the Import Settings dialog (17) you can specify whether to import materials, codes, types and locations for *newly imported* models into shared [project libraries](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/libraries) or to create new model-specific libraries upon import.&#x20;

The Model Status dialog (18) provides an overview of every model in the project, even those models you do not have access to. As a project owner you can always open any model (19) or override individual model access rights by joining a model as Owner (20). This page also allows you to delete models (21).&#x20;

# Models

Read this article to learn how to use the models tab in a project.

To open the model overview of a project, select a project in the [project overview](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/projects) on the top of the dashboard (1) and click the Models tab on the left-hand side of the screen (2). All models you have access to will be shown here.

Click a model card to select it. Depending on your model access rights and the status of the model, you will be able to do any of the following actions on this model:

* Open the model (3)
* Discard any pending changes (4)
* Delete the model or restore a deleted model (5)
* Access the [model version history](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/models/model-version-management) (6)
* Manage the [model access rights](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/models/model-access-rights) (7)
* Export the model to IFC (8)
* Create a [public sharing](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/models/public-sharing) link (9)

If any of these actions are not available, this means you don't have the required [access rights](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/models/model-access-rights) to this specific model. Contact the model owner, or alternatively if you are the project owner, you can make yourself model owner in the Model Status page in the [project settings](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/projects).&#x20;

To open a model you can also simply double-click the model card. When opening a model you can choose between continuing in the web browser or opening the model in the desktop app. Functionality-wise both environments work exactly the same, but for modeling operations in large models we do recommend using the desktop application as you will have more computing power available.&#x20;

Select multiple models at once by holding down the Ctrl key while clicking the models, or hold the Shift key to select a range of models. Accessing the model version history and managing access rights for multiple models at once is currently not supported.

You can switch between card view and list view of the model in the top-right corner (10).

Use the sorting functionality to sort by model name, creation date and last updated (11).

Use the grouping functionality to group your models by creator or discipline (12). Grouping is only supported in the list view.

Use the filter option to filter on model tag (13)

Use the search field to filter on model name (14).

The list view also allows you to rename models by clicking the pencil icon appearing next to a model name.

To add a model to the project, click the green plus button at the top left of the screen (15), or simply drag and drop a file into the dashboard. Currently supported file types are .ifc, .3dm (Rhino3D), .skp (SketchUp) and .rvt (Autodesk Revit versions 2024 - 2027). Revit models can also be imported through the [Qonic plugin for Revit](https://www.qonic.com/downloads). Note that if a Revit upload through the dashboard fails, it is recommended to try again using the plugin. The file size limitations are as follows:

* .ifc import: 5GB file size limit, process timeout of 1 hour.
* .3dm import: 5GB file size limit, process timeout of 1 hour.
* .skp import: 5GB file size limit, process timeout of 1 hour.&#x20;
* .rvt import through the **dashboard**: 256MB file size limit, process timeout of 30 mins.
* .rvt import through the [Qonic plugin for Revit](https://www.qonic.com/downloads/): no file size limit, although once converted to Qonic the resulting data of the model cannot exceed 4GB.\
  A Revit model imported through the Qonic plugin for Revit can be edited, and the changes can be pushed back to the original Revit model through the same plugin.&#x20;

To create new models, you need at least the status of **Editor** in this project. For more information on project roles, visit [this help article](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/projects).&#x20;

Valid models will be displayed with a 3D snapshot of the model as their thumbnail. If a [red triangle](https://help.qonic.com/documentation/qonic-dashboard/pages/9k6ZT9KI2mgQ7El5jk3D#my-model-shows-a-red-warning-triangle-and-i-cannot-open-it.-what-do-i-do) appears over the thumbnail, that means something went wrong with the upload. A loading icon means that the model is still processing. Newly uploaded models will also be displayed with a 3D snapshot, and will not be visible to other project members until you publish your changes. # Model Version Management

Changes made to models are automatically saved, but need to be published to share with other collaborators. Read this article to learn more about model version management.

## Introduction

Qonic has a built-in versioning system similar to the git-approach often used in software development. The basic idea is as follows: each BIM model has a public version, the single source of truth for that model at any given time. As soon as someone starts to make a change to the model, a personal version of the model is created for that person; they branch off from the public model to create their own changes. These changes are not visible to other contributors until they are published, or synced, with the public version. After publishing, the public version (the single source of truth) of the model now contains these new modifications.

This approach has several advantages:

* Have an overview of the entire version history of a model. Look back at what a model looked like at a certain date in the past so you can see what has changed in the meantime. This also means you can revert the model back to what it was at a certain point in time.
* Conflict management: if multiple people make conflicting changes to the model at the same time, the system gives you a warning and you can solve the conflict manually if necessary.
* It will allow working offline. You can download the model, make your changes locally and when you are ready, push the changes back to the cloud so it syncs back up with the public version.

## Accessing the version history of a model

In the dashboard, head to the project model overview. Select a model and click the Versions button.

A dialog will open showing the full version history of the selected model, showing the most recent version at the top. You can select any version, and do any of the following actions:

* Open that version. If the selected model version is **not** the latest public version, the model version will be opened in read-only mode.&#x20;
* Revert to that version. You will not lose any information when doing so; a new version will be created which is a copy of the model version you had selected.&#x20;
* Export to IFC
* Compare to any other version of the model

## How to publish your changes

As soon as you have made a modification to a model, a personal version of the model will be created that contains these modifications. You will be notified that your changes are saved in the top-right corner of the screen. To make your changes available to other contributors you will need to **publish** them. To do this, click the Review and Publish button in the top right corner of either the project dashboard or the model application:

This will give an overview of **all models and libraries where you currently have pending changes**. In the image below, one model was edited and another one was removed. When publishing, all changes across these different models and libraries will be published at once. You can still deselect the models of which you don't want to publish your changes yet. You can also discard all changes in your project at once.

Once published, your version becomes the latest public version of the model. Anyone opening this model will now see your changes, unless they have changes incompatible with your changes.

## Collaborating

It is possible to work with multiple people on one single model at the same time. Because of the asynchronous approach of Qonic's versioning system, you will not see other people's changes appear in your model view in real time. Instead, whenever someone chooses to publish their changes, these changes will become part of the new public version of the model. If you see something like in the image below, this means that someone has recently published their changes and the server is still processing this.

One of two scenarios is now possible:

* The changes that were made by the other person do not conflict with your own changes. You don't need to worry about anything - Qonic will automatically sync these changes. If you now open up the model again, you will see the other persons changes as well as your own (note: you will still need to publish your changes for other people to see them).
* The changes that were made by the other person conflict with your own changes. You are notified by this conflict in the version history panel.

When this happens, you can either discard your changes or attempt to resolve the conflicts. This will give you an indication of whose version of the model your changes are conflicting with.

* **Discard your changes:** you will lose all the changes you have made since you last published this model.&#x20;
* **Solve conflicts:** open the model in a dedicated 'conflict solving' mode. Here you will see a list of all conflicting changes, with an option to choose between the two versions of each change. On the left-hand side you will see your own version of the change, on the right-hand side you will see the latest public version of the change. You can solve each conflict individually by clicking either of the two options. Once all conflicts have been resolved, the 'conflict solving' mode will be closed and you can continue working as normal.\

## Revisions

Qonic supports uploading revisions of IFC files in the same version history of a model. In the version history of a model, click Upload Revision in the bottom left of the screen.&#x20;

**Note:** this functionality only supports revisions of the **same model**. If you upload a completely different model using the revision button, it will likely fail to process.

When uploading a revision, Qonic will not simply overwrite the previous version of the model. Instead, it will try to *merge* the changes that were made in Qonic and those that were made in the new IFC file. This way you can in fact simultaneously work in your original BIM authoring tool of choice **and** in Qonic, and use the version history in Qonic to manage and keep track of all these changes. If there are conflicts between changes made in Qonic and those made in the new IFC revision, the same conflict resolving method as described above will be available.

## Version Comparison

Qonic has a built-in toolset for comparing two versions of the same model. To do this, select two versions of a model in the version history dialog by holding the **Ctrl** key, and once selected click the Compare button.&#x20;

Once the model is opened, some notifications will be shown giving you an overview of the changes between the two selected versions. Click the notification for a temporary color override for these products, or click the individual items per notification to get a more detailed view.

The changes are grouped in the following categories:

* Added products, highlighted in green
* Removed products, highlighted in red
* Data modifications on existing products, highlighted in blue
* Geometry modifications on existing products, highlighted in blue. A dual representation is shown: the opaque blue object is the **current** state of the object's geometry, and the transparent blue outline is the **previous** state. In the image below, the column was extended down, resulting in a longer column.

# Model Access Rights

Read this article to learn more about assigning and managing access rights to models in a project.

In the [model overview](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/models), select a model and click Access. Only model owners can manage the access rights of a model.&#x20;

Once the access rights dialog is open, you will see a panel on the left-hand side containing some basic information about this model, such as the owner, creation date and the last contributors to the model (1).

For each project member you can specify their access rights for this specific model (2):

* **No Access:** cannot access the model. The model will also not be visible for this person in the [model overview](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/models).&#x20;
* **Read-Only:** can view the model
* **Viewer:** can view and download the model
* **Data editor:** can view the model and edit metadata such as properties
* **Model editor:** can view and edit the model, both in geometry and data
* **Owner:** can view and edit the model, and manage access rights

A model always needs at least **one** owner.

You can also specify default access rights for the model (3). Newly added members to a project will be assigned this default role.&#x20;

To keep a good overview of all project members and their model roles, you can sort (4) and group (5) the members.&#x20;

After making your changes, be sure to click the Save button on the bottom-right of the dialog.

# Public Sharing

Read this article to learn how to create public sharing links for models.

Qonic allows you to share models using a simple URL. People opening this URL don't need a Qonic account, they can simply click the link and a new web browser tab will open showing the model in read-only mode.&#x20;

To create a public sharing link, select one or more models in the [model overview](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/models) and click the Share button.

To enable public sharing for the selected model(s), switch the toggle in the sharing dialog (1).&#x20;

Optionally, you can specify an expiry date for this public link (2). The link itself is shown (3) and can easily be copied to your clipboard using the *Copy Link* button.&#x20;

# Drawings

Vectorized CAD drawings can be generated from model views using basic configuration options.

## Creating a drawing

Before creating a drawing, open a model and use the [Views Panel](/documentation/qonic-application/querying-and-reporting/views-panel) to define one or more views of your model(s). Once the view is created and these model changes have been published, you can generate 2D vectorized drawings from these views. To generate the drawings, click the Generate Drawings button in the middle of the screen.

This will open a list of all views you can generate drawings for, optionally grouped by model and/or label. Select the views you want to generate drawings for.&#x20;

A view in the 3D model will only show up in this list if it contains a **section box**. This is required because the generator needs to know the direction and the depth of the view.

Optionally, click the *Configuration* button in the bottom-left corner to set up basic configurations of what these drawings should looks like. You can choose whether or not to show automatically generated dimensions, door/window tags, grids and room, and customize section hatches and dimension styles. In the current iteration of this feature, section hatches are generally defined for all object types.

Once configured, click the *Save Configuration* and then the *Generate Drawings* button in the bottom-right corner of the dialog. This will start the drawing generation process.&#x20;

## Managing drawings

Once you have created a set of drawings, they will appear in the drawings tab. To create more drawings, click the green + button in the top left corner (1). The top right-corner contains some options to sort or filter your drawings, or to switch to a list view (2).

With a drawing selected, you have the option to:

* Open the drawing (3),
* Update the drawing (4). This will always reference the **last public version** of the models used in the drawing,
* Delete the drawing (5),
* Export the drawing to .dwg (6).&#x20;

## Modifying a drawing

Open a drawing by double-clicking it. This opens the drawing in a new tab in the user interface as outlined below. You will find a drawing picker in the top-left corner to easily switch between drawings (1). In the top-right corner you will find undo and redo actions (2), as well as a button to display the [Inspect Panel](/documentation/qonic-application/querying-and-reporting/inspect-panel), showing the properties and attributes of your current selection (3).&#x20;

The bottom right corner displays the help center with options to contact support or report a bug.

The bottom toolbar displays a basic set of functions to further annotate or alter your drawing:

* Pan mode (5)
* Zoom to Fit (6)
* Add dimensions (7)
* Add text (8)
* Delete objects (9)
* Enable/disable Ortho mode (10)
* Enable/disable snapping (11)

Note that drawings in Qonic are always **output from the 3D model**. This means that modifying the drawing (e.g. deleting a wall) will **not** result in this wall being deleted from the 3D model.

Changes made to the drawings are automatically saved and visible to other project members.

# Reports

Reports can be created from a model to generate precise quantity takeoffs based on grouping and filtering rules.

## Creating a report

To define a new report, open a model and use the [Report Panel](/documentation/qonic-application/querying-and-reporting/report-panel) to define the structure of your report. Once the report is set up in the model environment, save it to the project dashboard by clicking Export Report.

## Using reports

Once a report has been created, it can be double-clicked to open. You can view the entities that each row relates to by clicking the *View in model* button in the right-most column.

You can at any given moment export your report to a .csv file.&#x20;

Each time a new version of a model is created (see [Model Versions](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/models/model-version-management)), you will need to create a new report or update the existing report if you want to see these new changes. Update the report by clicking the Update button at the bottom-right of the report. If this button is greyed out, it means that this report is already up to date.

# Libraries

Create and manage project and model libraries in the dashboard.

## What are libraries in Qonic?

Libraries contain definitions of items that can be used across models within the project. Qonic currently supports the following library types:

* [Codes](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/libraries/codes-libraries)
* [Materials](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/libraries/material-libraries)
* [Properties](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/libraries/property-libraries)
* [Locations](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/libraries/location-libraries)
* [Types](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/libraries/type-libraries)

## Project Libraries vs Model Libraries

When importing models in Qonic, it is possible to specify per library type whether to import the data into a shared project library or create a separate model-specific library. This can be specified by the project owners under Import Settings in the Project settings at the bottom left of the screen. By default, the 'project library' toggle will be disabled for each of the library types, meaning that for each newly imported model, a new model library for each library type will be created (if the imported model contains items of that library type). If you want to ensure that a certain type of data (e.g. materials) is shared across the models in the project,  enable the related toggle and choose which project library you want the newly imported data to be imported in. If there are no project libraries yet, you may need to create one first. You will find more information about defining project libraries below.

When using shared libraries and importing multiple models that contain library items with identical names and properties, these library items will be merged. For example, when importing two models that both contain a material called 'Concrete C50/60' and this material has the same properties in both models, these materials will be merged into one single library item. If you now modify this material in the library, the change will be visible in both models.&#x20;

**Note:** at this time, model libraries for *properties* are not supported. Custom property definitions created in Qonic will always be in a shared project library. Custom property definitions imported through a model import are limited to that model and cannot be edited; therefore they are not shown in the dashboard library overview.

## Defining project libraries

To view your project libraries, open a project in the dashboard and go to the Libraries tab on the left-hand side of the screen. Here you can cycle between the different library types. Within the selected library type you will see an overview of current libraries, grouped in Project Libraries and Model Libraries. If you are not seeing the libraries you expect to see, make sure both project and model libraries are displayed using the view filter in the top-right corner.

To define a new project library, click the <kbd>+</kbd> button in the top-left corner.

# Codes Libraries

Codes libraries are used to assign classification codes to objects in your models, which will help keep the models more organized and can help in creating automated quantity takeoffs and schedules.

When creating a new project codes library, you can create a new one from scratch, import your own library, or choose from a list of predefined templates or classification systems. These systems are linked to the [buildingSMART Data Dictionary](https://www.buildingsmart.org/users/services/buildingsmart-data-dictionary/) to ensure you always have access to the latest updates of the most commonly used systems.

To import your own library, use a .csv of .xls file structured according to the following example:&#x20;

Once a codes library is added to the project you can open and view it, or you can start assigning classification codes in your models using the [Inspect panel](/documentation/qonic-application/querying-and-reporting/inspect-panel).

Some classification systems come with predefined measurement definitions that define which quantities will be calculated when generating a quantity take-off. For instance, external walls classified with the code 2.5.1.1 of the NRM system - as shown in the image below - will have their **area** calculated in a quantity take-off.&#x20;

Once a codes library is defined it can be edited; existing codes can be modified or removed, and new codes can be added. To edit a code, right-click it or use the action menu on the bottom of your screen after selecting it. You will have the options to:

* edit the selected code,
* insert a new row on the same level as the selected code,
* create a sub level of the selected code,
* delete the selected code.

When adding a new code or editing an existing one, you can define the identification code, the name and optionally a measurement definition.&#x20;

**Note:** when removing a code that is referenced in one or more models, you are effectively removing data from that model. Do this with caution, as this change is irreversible.


# Material Libraries

Material libraries are used to assign physical materials to objects in your models. Currently Qonic comes with one default library template containing some commonly used construction materials. This library can be edited and extended. To edit a material, right-click it or use the action menu at the bottom of your screen after selecting it. You can define a new color, name and optionally a category of the material. To add a new material, click the green + button on the bottom right of the screen.

Once a material library is added to the project you can open and view it, or you can start using them in models using tools such as [Add Layer](/documentation/qonic-application/modeling/modifying/material-layer-editing/add-layer) or [Replace with Layer](/documentation/qonic-application/modeling/modifying/material-layer-editing/replace-with-layer).

# Property Libraries

Property libraries are used to define and manage properties and property sets. By default every project contains two property libraries: a predefined read-only **Qonic Properties** library based on the IFC schema, and **Custom Properties** library which can be modified to create and manage your own properties.

The predefined Qonic Properties library shows all the property sets and associated properties defined in the different IFC versions, as well as the data type and, if relevant, the measurement type of each property.

To define your own properties, open the Custom Properties library, and click the *Add property set* button at the bottom right. Give your new property set a name, and choose at least one IFC Class or predefined type this property set should be applicable to.

In this property set you can now add new property definitions. These property definitions should have a name and a data type, and optionally a measurement type and unit.

# Location Libraries

Location libraries contain all spatial locations in the project: Sites, Buildings, Floors, Spaces and other types of locations. When importing a model into your Qonic project, a model location library will automatically be created which contains the spatial locations within that model, unless the [toggle for project location libraries](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/libraries#project-libraries-vs-model-libraries) is enabled. In that case, the spatial locations will be added to the specified project library.

For every location the name is displayed, as well as the type and the number of models that reference this location. It is possible to share the same location over multiple models, for instance when working with different discipline models of the same building.

In this location library you can edit or remove existing locations, as well as create new locations.&#x20;

**Note:** when removing a location that is referenced in one or more models, you are effectively removing data from that model. Do this with caution, as this change is irreversible.


# Type Libraries

Type libraries contain the object types used in your project, e.g. door types, wall types etc. These types can be stored in model-specific libraries or shared across models using a [project library](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/libraries#project-libraries-vs-model-libraries). Types can be either imported through a model import, or they can be created from scratch. For each type you can specify a name, IFC class and subtype.&#x20;

# Components

A component is a reusable definition - a window, a door, a piece of furniture, an MEP terminal - that you create once and instance many times. The result is models that are faster to assemble and easier to keep coherent.

To access your project components, head to the Components tab on the left-hand side. Here you will find an overview of all component libraries in this project.

To create a new component library from scratch or import a component library from another project, click the green <kbd>+</kbd> button.&#x20;

Double-click a library to open it. Once in a library, you will find an overview of all components in this library.&#x20;

Click the green <kbd>+</kbd> button to upload .rfa files as new components. Currently supported versions are Revit 2024-2027.&#x20;

Select a component to edit its name or delete it. Double-click a component to open its variants.

# Installation

To install the Qonic Desktop Application, head to [qonic.com/downloads](https://www.qonic.com/downloads) and download the relevant installer for your system. Once installed, the application will update automatically with each new release.

These are the instructions to install the Qonic Windows app through the command line:

  * -s, --silent Hides all dialogs and answers 'yes' to all prompts

# User Interface Overview

Read this article to get a quick overview of the different interface elements of the Qonic application.

1. Project name.
2. Model picker. The number of opened models is displayed; clicking this button will open the list of all models in this project you have access to, with the option to load/unload any models in the current session. You can set **one** model as the **active** model, meaning that new geometry will be added in this model. You can also temporarily lock any model for the current session, to prevent accidental modifications. This lock is personal to you and does not affect other project members' access rights to these models. Next to the model picker, optionally the mode of your current session will be displayed. This can be either:
   1. **Read only:** you only have [viewing access](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/models/model-access-rights) to this model, or you have opened a [public sharing](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/models/public-sharing) key, or Qonic has automatically enabled read only mode to prevent a [memory crash](https://help.qonic.com/documentation/qonic-application/basics/pages/9k6ZT9KI2mgQ7El5jk3D#qonic-crashes-in-the-web-browser.-whats-going-on).&#x20;
   2. **Conflict solving:** you are in a dedicated conflict solving mode because your previous changes conflict with the latest public version. Solve all conflicts before continuing to edit the model.
   3. **Version Compare:** you are currently comparing two versions of a single model. This is a read-only mode dedicated to displaying the differences between these two versions. To compare two versions of a model, go the the [model version history](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/models/model-version-management), select one model version, click the Compare button and then select another model version.
3. [Command center](/documentation/qonic-application/querying-and-reporting/command-center): use this to launch a tool or search on property or attribute.
4. Undo (shortcut <kbd>Ctrl</kbd> <kbd>Z</kbd>)
5. Redo (shortcut <kbd>Ctrl</kbd> <kbd>Y</kbd>)
6. [Saving state](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/models/model-version-management) of the currently active model, including a publish button which closes the application and takes you to the [model version history](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/models/model-version-management), where you can choose to publish or discard you changes.
7. Notifications button.

Jump to one of your favorited views (up to 5 views can be set as favorite) by using shortkeys <kbd>1</kbd> to <kbd>5</kbd>. # Selection Modes

Find out how to select products, subassemblies and subentities such as faces and edges.

## Default Selection

The default selection mode allows you to select products in your model.

Left-click a product to select it; left-click another product to add it to your selection. Selected products will be indicated with a green outline; the rest of the model will appear slightly transparent and greyed out.

Left-click an already selected product to remove it from your selection.

Press *Escape* or click the *Clear selection* button on the left-hand side of the screen to clear your selection.&#x20;

To select a product that is behind another product from the current camera angle, repeatedly hit the *Tab* key to cycle through products behind your cursor.

Hit <kbd>Ctrl</kbd> <kbd>A</kbd> to select everything in the current scope.

Use a selection window to select an entire portion of the model view at once: click, hold and drag the left mouse button to create a selection window. A blue selection window (drag from left to right) will select all products that fall completely within the bounded area. A green selection window (drag from right to left) will select all products that fall within the bounded area or cross the edges of the bounded area.&#x20;

When working with [assemblies](/documentation/qonic-application/modeling/modifying/assembly-editing), there are several ways to select a desired level in the assembly from the model view. To select subassemblies in the model view, double-click to dig one level deeper, triple-click to dig another level deeper and so on. Alternatively, click and hold the left mouse button until you reach the level of the assembly you want to select. Finally, if you are only interested in the lowest level of the assembly, hold <kbd>Ctrl</kbd> and left-click.&#x20;

## Deep Select

The Deep Select mode allows you to select faces, edges, verices, bodies, chalk curves and closed boundaries for direct manipulation of the geometry.

To enable Deep Select, click the *Deep Select* icon in the bottom toolbar or hit <kbd>D</kbd>.&#x20;

A black preview of the face, edge or vertex you are about to select will be displayed when hovering the cursor over an entity. A selected face, edge or vertex will be highlighted in green.&#x20;

To select an entire body, either individually select all its faces and edges **or** hold <kbd>Ctrl</kbd> and left-click the body.&#x20;

To select a closed boundary on an existing face or on the XY-plane, move your cursor inside that boundary and hit the *Tab* key. The boundary should now be highlighted; left-click to select it. A boundary can be defined by 3D geometry intersecting with the highlighted face, and/or chalk curves drawn on top of this face.

To select a face or edge that is behind another part from the current camera angle, hit the *Tab* key to cycle through faces and edges behind your cursor.

Use a selection window to select multiple bodies, faces, edges or chalk curves at once: click, hold and drag the left mouse button to create a selection window. A blue selection window (drag from left to right) will select all entities that fall completely within the bounded area. A green selection window (drag from right to left) will select all entities that fall within the bounded area or cross the edges of the bounded area. use the <kbd>Tab</kbd> key to cycle between bodies, faces, edges or chalk curves.&#x20;

# Select Same

Use this to find all products matching your current selections' geometry, class, location, material or assembly structure.

1. Select an object of which you want to find similar objects
2. Right-click, and click Select Same

3. Toggle the criteria you would like to search by. You can for example search for all objects of the same IFC Class in the same location (e.g. Floor or Space).&#x20;
4. Click Select.

Searching on similar **assembly** structure will only be enabled if the select product has an [assembly](/documentation/qonic-application/modeling/modifying/assembly-editing) structure of more than 1 level.

# Spaces

Show spaces in your 3D view.

To enable spaces,click the *Spaces* visualization toggle in the right-hand toolbar.

A **space** has a dual representation in Qonic, based on how it is approached in the IFC schema:

* On the one hand, a space is a **spatial container**. This means it fits inside the hierarchy of *Project > Site > Building > Storey > Space > Object*. Physical objects in the model - such as walls, windows or furniture - can be assigned to such a spatial container. This is useful for relating objects to the spaces they sit within, for example in cases like analysing sensor or IoT data.&#x20;
* On the other hand, a space can (optionally) have a **geometric representation**, which is a solid object representing the physical shape and bounds of this space. This is useful for quantifying the spaces or running analyses like thermal analysis or design brief checking.&#x20;

## Space Geometry

If your model contains any space geometry they will now be visually displayed as a transparent object with a coloured hatch overlayed on top of it. The colors are automatically assigned and cannot be edited, except when applying a temporary color override using the [Report](/documentation/qonic-application/querying-and-reporting/report-panel) panel.&#x20;

The space geometry can be set in scope, measured or geometrically modified like any other product in the model.&#x20;

Note that in the current implementation there is no explicit relation between a space and its bounding elements, meaning that moving a wall will not automatically update the adjacent spaces' geometry. Inversely, modifying the shape of a space will not adapt the bounding walls, slabs or other entities.&#x20;

## Spatial Container

The **spatial container** can be viewed and edited in the [Locations Library](/documentation/qonic-application/querying-and-reporting/libraries-panel#location-library).&#x20;

Using the Library panel you can modify relations between spatial containers, or add properties to these spaces.

# Grids

Show grids in your 3D view. Interact with the grids by snapping to axes and grid intersections.

To enable building grids, click the *Grid* visualization toggle in the right-hand toolbar.

If your project contains any grids, they will now be visually displayed. By default the grid will only be displayed on the ground floor of the building. It will be partially obscured by geometry in front of it but still visible so that you have a visual reference.

When interacting with geometry on a different floor of the building, e.g. snapping to a floor slab to create new geometry, the grid will *automatically be projected* to this floor slab for easy reference. You can now snap to intersections of the projection of this grid.&#x20;

When performing a modeling operation along a specific axis (e.g. Push/Pull or Transform), grid axes in a plane perpendicular to the motion will be *automatically* counted as a possible snap target. # World Context

Show the project Survey Point and 3D map data in the 3D view. Geolocate your project by assigning coordinates and a coordinate system to this survey point.

To visualize the project Survey Point, click the Survey Point visualization toggle in the right-hand toolbar. Right-click it for more options.

The survey point is indicated by a disc with a North arrow (1). The survey point is the link between the project and its geographic location. It is shared data of the project, meaning it is **not** tied to a specific model.

In new projects this point will be located in the workspace origin (0,0,0) by default. When importing .rvt or .ifc models, the **first** model that was imported in this project that **contains georeferencing data** (e.g. IfcMapConversion) will dictate the location and coordinates of the project survey point.&#x20;

The location of the survey point in the project can be modified by using the [Transform](/documentation/qonic-application/modeling/modifying/transform) tool (2). While the survey point is selected, use the [Inspect Panel](/documentation/qonic-application/querying-and-reporting/inspect-panel) (3) to modify the project's Coordinate Reference System (4) and the survey point's Coordinates (5).&#x20;

Click the survey point button again or right-click it and choose the Full World Context option to display your project in its 3D context. Qonic is streaming this data through Cesium by Bentley®. This feature is limited to 5 sessions per day per user.

# Browse Panel

Use this panel to browse your model. Group and filter on location, IFC Class, IFC Properties and other attributes.

Open the Browse panel by clicking the tree view button at the top left of your screen or by using the <kbd>Shift</kbd> <kbd>B</kbd> shortcut.

In this panel this you will find an overview of objects in the currently opened models, grouped and filtered according to your specifications. The currently active configuration is displayed at the top (2) and can be edited, saved and shared with other members of the project. You can use the Search bar (1) to quickly filter on a value or keyword. Finally, the tree view (3) of the current configuration is shown. Use the button on the right (4) to quickly expand and collapse the entire tree.

The default configuration structures the tree by Model, Location and Class, but it is possible to reconfigure this tree completely based on any data within the model(s). Click the currently active preset and click the pencil icon to edit it, or click Create New to start a new configuration from scratch. A configuration should consist of at least one grouping rule, and optionally one or more filtering rules.

## Grouping

Grouping is the backbone of the browse panel, and defines what the tree will look like. You will need at least one grouping rule for the browse panel to show a result. By default the following grouping rules will be active:

1. by Model (if multiple models are opened),
2. then by Location (Site > Building > Floor > Space),
3. then by IFC class.

These grouping rules are customizable. You can remove groups by clicking the cross in the grouping tile, you can reorder the groups by dragging the tiles around, and you can add groups by clicking the + icon at the top of the grouping header. When adding a grouping rule you can choose from any property or attribute such as location, material and type.

When grouping by Class, an additional option is available to organize products by internal assembly structure. This will, where applicable, show the hierarchical structure of assemblies.&#x20;

Disabling this option will not show the hierarchical structure of assemblies in the tree, and will basically show a flat list of IFC Classes in this group. **Note:** you can also enable/disable this toggle by clicking the hierarchical button within the grouping tile.

## Filtering

Optionally you can define additional filters in the structure. You can filter on specific property values, locations, materials or other attributes. A filter can be inverted by applying the NOT filter. In the image below, furnishing elements and geographic elements will **not** be shown in the browse panel.&#x20;

If you want to filter on products that have a property or attribute value containing a specific word or value, you can use the 'contains' filter. Start by typing the value you want, and the option should appear to filter on this specific value. In the image below we typed in 'concrete', and instead of manually checking the individual boxes of materials containing the word 'concrete', we can simply check the '**contains** concrete' option.&#x20;

You can filter on products that have a property or attribute value following a certain pattern, using the special characters **\*** (asterisk) and **?** (question mark).&#x20;

The asterisk denotes a blank string of an unspecified number of characters. In the image below, the pattern **600x\*TAPERED** means that it will accept products with an ObjectType containing a string made up of:

The question mark denotes a single blank character. In the image below, the pattern **1.?.1** means that it will accept products with Code containing a string made up of:

It is also possible to filter out products that do not have a value for any of the grouping rules by disabling the *'show items with no value'* toggle.&#x20;

These filters only determine what is shown *in the browse panel*. Applying a filter will **not** automatically filter the 3D view of the model. If you do want to set a view based on the selected filters, you can select all geometry displayed in the tree and set that selection in Scope.&#x20;

## Saving configurations

When you have finished configuring the tree using grouping and filtering rules, you can choose to **apply** or **save** the configuration. This will enable you to re-use existing configurations across models in your project.&#x20;

## Structure Tree

Once you have set up your groups and optional filters, the products **currently in scope** will be displayed in the structure tree using this configuration. In the example below, only loadbearing beams and columns are shown. They are first grouped by material, and within each material they are further subdivided by floor.&#x20;

The tree can be used to select products in your model. You can click any node in the tree and the corresponding products will be selected. Use Ctrl + left click to select multiple nodes individually, or use Shift + left click to select multiple consecutive nodes at once.

## Empty property values

Sometimes you will encounter nodes in the structure tree that say *Not assigned*. This shows all the products that don't have a value assigned to the property corresponding with the current group. In the image below, all doors are listed and grouped in 3 categories: FireExit = False, FireExit = True and FireExit = *Not assigned*. This can be used to easily search for products that have missing properties. This missing information can then easily be added in the [Inspect Panel](/documentation/qonic-application/querying-and-reporting/inspect-panel).&#x20;

It is possible to ignore the items that don't have values assigned to them in the tree, by toggling off the '*Show items with no value'* toggle in the configuration menu.


# Report Panel

Use the Report panel to generate a table view of objects in your model along with their quantities and properties.

Open the Report panel by clicking the table icon at the top left of your screen or by using the <kbd>Shift</kbd> <kbd>R</kbd> shortcut.

When opening this panel for the first time, the grouping and filtering rules that were last used in the [Browse panel](/documentation/qonic-application/querying-and-reporting/browse-panel) will be used here. You can change the configuration or edit the current one by clicking the Preset dropdown menu in the top left corner of the panel. You can find more information about groups and filters in [this article](/documentation/qonic-application/querying-and-reporting/browse-panel) about the Browse panel. Browse panel configurations can be reused in the Report panel.

The following columns will be available in the table:

* **Structure tree**\
  This displays the objects in your model, structured using customizable grouping and filtering rules. To change this structure, click the Preset dropdown menu in the top left corner of the panel.  Double-click an item to select the associated objects in your model.
* **Quantity**, along with their **Unit** and **Measurement**\
  For each item (row) in the report panel you can calculate a combined measurement of all objects in that row. The default measurement definition that is used is *Count* (*"how many objects are there of this type/with this property/of this class..."*), with the following exceptions:

  * If all objects within that item are either Curtain Walls, Roofs or Walls, the default measurement will be set to *Net Area*.
  * If all objects within that item are either Beams, Footings, Slabs or Columns, the default measurement will be set to *Net Volume*.
  * If all objects within that item are either Duct Segments, Flow Segments, Distribution Flow Elements or Cable Carrier Segments, the default measurement will be set to *Length*.

  You can always change the Measurement and Unit of a table item by clicking the respective buttons indicated in grey. To get visual feedback how a certain quantity is calculated, you can select one or more rows, and under the ellipsis icon at the end of the row, click *Quantities Preview*. If one or more quantities were not able to be calculated, a warning triangle will be displayed, and the quantities preview will indicate which objects are causing the issue. A spinning circle means that the quantity is currently being calculated - this may take a while for large selections.&#x20;

**Hint:** is the user interface slow while the report panel is open? This may be due to the background calculation of quantities in your model. You can either wait for the calculations to finish (once calculated these measurements will be stored so next time this will go much faster), **or** you can hit the **Escape** key to cancel all calculations. You can restart calculations again by clicking the ellipsis icon in the top right of the panel and clicking *Recalculate all*.

* **Properties** (optional)\
  You can add property columns to your report by editing the current configuration and clicking the + icon next to *Columns*. Any property currently used in the model can be added to or removed from the table. If a table item contains multiple objects with different values for a given property, these property values will be listed separated by a comma.&#x20;
* **Color** **Override** (optional)\
  For each item in the table you can apply a temporary color override, by selecting the row and under the ellipsis icon clicking the *Colorize* button. If you have no rows selected, you can instead choose to colorize all, which will apply a unique color to each row in the panel.\
  The colorize button will temporarily override the color of the geometry in the selected item(s), allowing you to get quick visual feedback of the geometry contained in a single table item.&#x20;

To summarize with an example, the image below has the following meaning:

* The table is first grouped by *IFC Class* (Door, Wall, ...), and then by *Name* (Balcony Door, Acoustic Insulation, ...)&#x20;
* There are **88** doors with the name *Balcony Door* in the model. At least one of them has an acoustic rating of **35**. To know precisely which of the doors have this value, expand the group to show the individual doors. The Balcony Doors have a temporary green color override.
* There are **52** doors with the name *Door* in the model. At least one of them has an acoustic rating of **35**. They all have a temporary yellow color override.
* There are **875** doors with the name *Interior Door* in the model. There are interior doors with Fire Rating values **45**, **60** and **90** in this group, and with Acoustic Rating values **20**, **30**, **42** and **35**. To know precisely which of the doors have which values, expand the group to show the individual doors. They all have a temporary orange color override.&#x20;
* The total combined Net Area of all walls with the name *Acoustic Insulation* is at least **1902.74 sqm**. The exact value could not be calculated because the calculation of at least one of the walls in this group has failed because of an unknown reason. Click the warning triangle to indicate which wall is causing the issue.&#x20;
* The IFC Base Quantity *Net Footprint Area* is calculated for the walls in this report. Clicking the info icon next to a calculated value will give some visual feedback in the model how this value was calculated.&#x20;

Once the report is set up the way you want, you can save it to the project dashboard by clicking the ellipsis button at the top-right of the panel, and clicking *Export Report*. This report can now be consulted in the project [Reports](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/reports) section.&#x20;

## Version Compare

If you are comparing two versions of a model using the [Version Compare](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/models/model-version-management) feature, the report panel is extended with specific functionality to group and filter on the changes between these versions.&#x20;

Edit the structure of the report panel and make sure to enable the toggle to 'only show items with modifications' if that is what you are interested in. Add a rule to group on modification type.

This should result in a list of all changes grouped by type of modification. If a modification has impact on that product's quantity, both the old and the new quantity of that product will be displayed, as well as the difference between the two. In the image below, the rectangular footing in the *old* version of the model had a volume of 0 m<sup>3</sup> (it did not exist in the previous version), and in the new version it has a volume of 0.51 m<sup>3</sup>. Hence, the difference is an increase of 0.51 m<sup>3</sup>as indicated by the arrow p<kbd>o</kbd>inting up. You can double click an entry in the report to select and zoom to the associated product(s)&#x20;

Instead of grouping by modification type you can also use this modification parameter as a filter rule (e.g. 'show only added products') or add it as a separate column, as shown in the image below.&#x20;

# Command Center

Use the command center to search in your model or to launch tools.

The command center can be found at the top of the Qonic application window. Click it to activate it, or hit <kbd>Ctrl</kbd> <kbd>F</kbd>.

Start typing some text in the command center. Qonic will now search for matches within the model metadata; object attributes, relations and properties that match the current query will be displayed.\
Click one of the search hits or use the arrow down key to cycle through the list, and press Enter to select. The objects in the model and in the current scope that match the selected query will be selected. If there are multiple possible matches for the keywords you entered, multiple search results may be displayed.

If you want to do a more specific search, use one of the tiles at the bottom of the command center to specify what type of data you are looking for. This will ensure Qonic will only search for your keywords within that data type.

In the example below we are interested in finding the FireRating, so we specify to search only within Properties, and not within other data like location, material, type or code.

The command center can also be used to launch any tool; click the Tool button or type a forward slash <kbd>/</kbd> to search for a tool. This is useful if you are not sure where the button for a specific tool is located or if you just want to save time. Tools that match the current query will be displayed. Click one of the search hits or use the arrow down key to cycle through the list, and press Enter to activate. You can also use it to create a section plane or (re)set your scope.

# Inspect Panel

Use this panel to inspect the attributes, properties and relations of one or more parts.

Open this panel by clicking the Inspect icon at the top right corner of your screen or by using the <kbd>Shift</kbd> <kbd>I</kbd> shortcut.

## Default selection mode

For more information about the default selection mode, please read [this article](/documentation/qonic-application/basics/navigation-and-selection/selection-modes).&#x20;

### Overview of the Inspect Panel

If your selection consists of multiple IFC classes or if your selection contains nested parts, a total count of selected products will be shown, of which you can show a more detailed overview. In this example, 1 wall is selected as well as 1 window consisting of plates and building element parts.

If you have multiple parts of the same class selected, you can further split this up into groups of the same geometry by clicking the button that pops up next to the number of parts.&#x20;

Once clicked, unique pieces of geometry will be shown in a separate row, whereas identical parts will be grouped together. In the example below.&#x20;

Below this overview, all shared properties of the selected products are displayed.

Shared properties are properties that apply to all products in the current selection. Typical examples of shared properties will be *Name* (every product has a name), *Model* (every product exists within a model), *Class* (every product has an IFC class), ... In the image below, there also happens to be a property *ServiceLifeDuration* in the property set *Pset\_ServiceLife* that is assigned to both the window and the wall.

Properties that do **not** apply to all products in the selection will not be displayed here. For example, the property set Pset\_WindowCommon as defined by the IFC schema only applies to Windows, not Walls. Therefore, it will not be shown under the shared properties.

To display all properties of the selected objects of a specific IFC class, click that class at the top of the Inspect panel. This will also highlight the products of this class in the model in blue. Property sets can be expanded and collapsed, and you can use the Filter text field to filter on properties or property values.&#x20;

When selecting a single part, its name will be displayed as well as a little information icon, which allows you to copy that object's GUID - a globally unique identifier - to your clipboard.

When selecting multiple parts, the number of parts having a specific property value will be displayed next to that property value. In the image below, 10 windows are selected. They are all part of the same site and the same building. 5 of these windows are located on the 3rd floor and the other 5 are located on the 4th floor. There are three different types of windows in the selection set. Hovering your cursor over a property value will highlight all products within your selection that have that property value. Clicking the number next to a property value will reduce the selection to only those parts that have that property value.&#x20;

If you have editing rights to the model, you can click the property value and change the value, or click the ellipsis icon next to a property to either clear their value, edit their value or remove the property altogether.&#x20;

Use the filter at the top of the Inspect panel to easily find one or more specific attributes or properties you are interested in.

The properties in the inspect panel are divided into three main categories:

* General information about the selection, such as spatial location (site - building - floor - space), material, type, model, IFC class and code.
* Attributes: built-in fields defined directly in the IFC schema that do not reside in Property Sets.
* Other properties of the selection. These can be either IFC-defined property sets or custom property sets defined in a custom [property library](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/libraries/property-libraries).

### Adding new attributes and properties

You can add general information, attributes and properties to your selection by clicking the green + icon in the bottom right corner of the Inspect panel. Note that to add a code, material, location or type to your selection, it should first be defined in the [project library](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/libraries).

Choosing to add a Property will open the libraries from which you can add property definitions. By default the following libraries are available:

* IFC properties library, as defined by buildingSMART. Only those property sets that are applicable to the products you have selected will be displayed.
* IFC base quantities, as defined by buildingSMART. Only those base quantities that are applicable to the products you have selected will be displayed. The values of the base quantities will be automatically calculated based on the geometry of the product.&#x20;
* Custom imported properties, containing properties and property sets defined in the models that were imported in this project.
* Custom property libraries, which can be defined in the [project dashboard](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/libraries/property-libraries).

Click a property set to add it to the selected products, or click the chevron next to the property set name to expand the property set, allowing you to select individual properties. If a property definition already has a grey checkmark next to its name, that means this property is already applied to the selected products.

Once you have selected the property definitions you want to add to your selection, click the Add button on the bottom right. You can now optionally fill in some values for these selected properties and save these values, or skip this step and fill in the property values later.

### Relations with library items

As already mentioned in a previous paragraph, to add a code, material, location or type to your selection, it should first be defined in the [project library](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/libraries). This is because the actual definition of these items is managed in libraries on project level; in the Inspect Panel you can **only** add, remove or change a *relation between a model object and a library item such as material, code, location or type.* If you want to e.g. change the material of model object, you can change the relation of this model object to the material library (i.e. *point to another existing material in the library*) **or** you can modify the actual material definition in the [Libraries Panel](/documentation/qonic-application/querying-and-reporting/libraries-panel) (which will affect all other model objects across your project that have that specific material).&#x20;

To go to the definition of the library item *from within the Inspect Panel*, hover over the library item and a button should appear that will open the [Libraries Panel](/documentation/qonic-application/querying-and-reporting/libraries-panel) and take you to the definition of the highlighted library item.&#x20;

### Moving products to other models

The Inspect Panel can also be used to move products from one model to another. This means you can effectively merge models together, or split models up into smaller pieces.&#x20;

Simply select the product(s) you want to move, and under the General tab click the Model property. This will open the list of all models in the projects you have *modeling* access to. If this list only contains the one model, you can upload model models to the project in the [Dashboard](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/models) or add a new empty model in the [Browse panel](/documentation/qonic-application/querying-and-reporting/browse-panel).

Moving products across models means you are modifying **both** these models. This is handled as any other model change, meaning it requires an explicit **publish** action in **both models' version history** for this change to take effect and be shared with collaborators.

## Deep Selection Mode

The inspect panel can also be used during Deep Selection mode, and will display information about the currently selected faces, edges, vertices and/or bodies. In the image below, one body is selected consisting of 4 faces and 6 edges. The total volume of the selected body is 0.002 m³.&#x20;

If you want more information about the specific faces or edges, you can click the 'Face' or 'Edge' node in the structure tree at the top. In the image below, we find that there is a total of 4 Spline edges and 2 Linear edges, with a total length of 4295.129 mm. The Inspect panel can also be used to find exact X, Y and Z coordinates of a specific vertex.

# Libraries Panel

Use the libraries panel to manage and get an overview of your library items in the currently opened model(s).

Open the Libraries panel by clicking the Libraries icon at the top right corner of your screen or by using the <kbd>Shift</kbd> <kbd>L</kbd> shortcut. For any given library type, the model libraries for the currently opened model(s) will be displayed as well as any project libraries.

# Codes Library

Use this panel to get an overview of all Code libraries in the project (1). If no libraries are displayed, check if there are any currently active filters (2 and 3). If no filters are active and no libraries are displayed, this means there are no code libraries defined on project level, and the currently opened models contain no code libraries on model level. You can create a new code library by clicking the <kbd>+</kbd> button in the bottom right corner (4).

Open a library by clicking it; this will display all the codes in this library, and allows you to search on specific codes. If you are not finding the code you are looking for, make sure no filter is active. An active filter is indicated by a green dot over the filter icon.&#x20;

If any products have been assigned a code, the number of products with this code will be displayed below the code itself. Clicking a code will select all objects with this code.&#x20;

Click the ellipsis on the right of a code to edit it, delete it or create a new sub entry.

To assign or remove a code to products in the model, use the [Inspect Panel](/documentation/qonic-application/querying-and-reporting/inspect-panel).

To create a new code, open a library and click the green Create Code button at the bottom of the panel.


# Properties Library

Use this panel to get an overview of all Custom Property Sets (1) and Properties (2) in the project. If no property sets are displayed, check if there are any currently active filters (3 and 4). If no filters are active and no property sets are displayed, this means there are no custom properties defined in this project. You can create a new property or property set by clicking the <kbd>+</kbd> button in the bottom right corner (5).

**Note:** Custom *Imported* properties, created through e.g. an IFC of RVT import, are currently not editable and will not be displayed here. This panel only contains custom properties created in Qonic.

A property is always defined inside a property set. Create a new property set by clicking the green <kbd>+</kbd> button on the bottom right corner of the panel.&#x20;

When creating a new property set, you can define which IFC classes this property set will apply to. Leaving this blank will apply the property set to all IFC classes.

Click the ellipsis next to the newly created property set to create new properties within this set, or click the green <kbd>+</kbd> button to create a new property in any property set. Qonic supports two types of properties: (static) properties and dynamic properties.

#### Static properties

A static property, or property in short, is any property of which the value can be manually filled in. To create a new static property, click the green <kbd>+</kbd> button and click New Property. The property needs a name, a property set which it is part of, and a data type (String, Integer, Real, Boolean or Enumerated value).

Once the property is defined, it can be assigned to products in the [Inspect Panel](/documentation/qonic-application/querying-and-reporting/inspect-panel), and a value can be filled in for each individual product having this property.

#### Dynamic properties

A dynamic property is a property of which the value is derived from a certain expression. This expression can include other property values, or measurements taken from the object. To create a new dynamic property, click the green <kbd>+</kbd> button and click New Dynamic Property. The property needs a name (1), a property set which it is part of (2), and an expression (3) from which the unit (4) will be automatically derived.

The expression can be a combination of property values (5) and quantities (6) from the object the property is applied to. The property value can be applied indirectly through e.g. a property of a **material** that is applied to the object.&#x20;

In the example above, the **mass** of an object will be calculated from the **mass density** of the material that is assigned to it, multiplied by the **volume** which is calculated from the geometry of the object. The unit of mass (kg) is automatically derived from the units in the expression (kg/m³ for mass density and m³ for volume).&#x20;

Once you created the expression, you can still click the different parts of the expression to switch to another property or e.g. add specifications for the quantity you selected.

Since the value of a dynamic property is calculated based on the expression, you will not need to fill in a value when assigning this property to an object in the model.


# Types Library

Use this panel to get an overview of all Type libraries in the project (1). If no libraries are displayed, check if there are any currently active filters (2 and 3). If no filters are active and no libraries are displayed, this means there are no type libraries defined on project level, and the currently opened models contain no type libraries on model level. You can create a new type library by clicking the <kbd>+</kbd> button in the bottom right corner (4).

Click a Type library to open it. This will display all the types in this library, and allows you to search on specific types. If you are not finding the type you are looking for, make sure no filter is active. An active filter is indicated by a green dot over the filter icon.&#x20;

If any products have been assigned a type, the number of products of this type will be displayed below the type itself. Clicking a type will select all objects of this type.&#x20;

Click the ellipsis on the right of a type to edit or delete it.

To create a new type, open a library and click the green Create Type button at the bottom of the panel.


# Materials Library

Use this panel to get an overview of all Material libraries in the project (1). If no libraries are displayed, check if there are any currently active filters (2 and 3). If no filters are active and no libraries are displayed, this means there are no material libraries defined on project level, and the currently opened models contain no material libraries on model level. You can create a new material library by clicking the <kbd>+</kbd> button in the bottom right corner (4).

Click a material library to open it. This will display all the materials in this library, and allows you to search on specific materials. If you are not finding the material you are looking for, make sure no filter is active. An active filter is indicated by a green dot over the filter icon.&#x20;

You can edit these materials by changing their name, color, or by adding properties to the material. Material properties such as Mass Density or Thermal Conductivity can be used in Dynamic Properties or objects having this material.

To create a new material, open a library and click the green Create Material button at the bottom of the panel.


# Locations Library

Use this panel to get an overview of all Location libraries in the project (1). If no libraries are displayed, check if there are any currently active filters (2 and 3). If no filters are active and no libraries are displayed, this means there are no location libraries defined on project level, and the currently opened models contain no location libraries on model level. You can create a new location library by clicking the <kbd>+</kbd> button in the bottom right corner (4).

Click a location library to open it. This will display all the locatios in this library, and allows you to search on specific locations. If you are not finding the location you are looking for, make sure no filter is active. An active filter is indicated by a green dot over the filter icon.&#x20;

If any products have been assigned a location, the number of products in this location will be displayed below the location itself. Clicking a location will select all objects in this location .&#x20;

Click the ellipsis on the right of a location to edit it, delete it or to create a sub entry.

You can edit these locations by changing their name, place in the spatial hierarchy, elevation, and by adding other spatial properties.

Locations can have a hierarchical relation, for example a site consisting of one or more buildings, which in turn consist of multiple floors. If an object is located on a specific floor, it will also automatically be part of the respective building and site.&#x20;

To create a new location, open a library and click the green Create Location button at the bottom of the panel.


# Issues Panel

Use the issues panel to create and manage issues associated to the currently opened model(s).

Open the Issues panel by clicking the issues icon at the top right corner of your screen or by using the <kbd>Shift</kbd> <kbd>C</kbd> shortcut.&#x20;

Only those issues will be displayed that were created with the same combination of models that are currently opened.

#### Creating a new issue

Click the New Issue button at the bottom of the panel to manually create a new issue. An issue requires at least:

* a title,
* a priority,
* a status.

Optionally, more details can be added:

* the issue location, governed by the entities selected while creating the issue,
* an assignee, to be picked from the list of project members,
* a description, with the additional options to add screenshots and tag project members,
* one or more custom labels to easily identify groups of issues.

#### Importing issues from BCF

To import issues from a BCF file, click the green <kbd>+</kbd> button at the bottom of the panel and click *Import  Issues from BCF*. This will automatically add all the issues in the BCF file to the panel, containing all selections, camera positions and snapshots included in the original issues.

**Assignees** and **Creators** of the original issues will only be included in the Qonic issues if the email address matches that of an existing Qonic project member. If the email address of the issue **Creator** is not found in the project, the person who imported the BCF file will be assigned as creator.&#x20;

#### Using issues

Once an issue is created, it will be visible to the project members who have access to the models involved in the issue. It is possible to filter on specific issues, for example on issues assigned to you, or tagged with a specific label.

Issues will both be visible in a list view, and by means of location bubbles in the model view. Hover over a location bubble to view more details, and click it to open the full issue in the panel.

Click an issue to open it. Click the issue description to activate the associated selection set, and possibly a color override if the issue was created through a specific tool (e.g. the [Clash Detection](/documentation/qonic-application/analysing/clash-detection) tool which comes with a specific visualization of a clash volume). You can comment on issues, tag people and attach screenshots make the communication more clear. Once you have fixed the problem, you can resolve the issue and it will close. The issue will still be available but by default the list of issues shows a filtered view of only the unresolved issues. Disable this filter to view older issues that have been resolved previously.&#x20;

If you are the creator of an issue, you can edit an existing issue (e.g. change the description or reassign), or delete it if it is no longer relevant.&#x20;

# Views Panel

Use this panel to create and use custom defined views.

Open this panel by clicking the Views icon in the top right corner of your screen or by using the <kbd>Shift</kbd> <kbd>V</kbd> shortcut. An overview of all saved views will be displayed here.&#x20;

## Creating Views

Save your current view by clicking the green plus button in the bottom right of the panel. You can give the view a name and optionally assign a location and one or more labels. The view can store the following information:

* Currently opened model(s)
* Active scope, if a scope is set
* Active sections, if any are active
* Selected products, if any are selected
* Current camera position

For each of these parameters you can choose whether or not to include them in the saved view.&#x20;

## Managing Views

Once a view is created, it will show up in the Views panel. The image below shows the layout of the views panel, including the following elements:

1. Search bar to find specific views
2. Filter and grouping options. You can filter by label, and group by model or label
3. Collapse/Expand all
4. Options for automatically generation plan and elevation views based on the spatial locations in your project. For each building 4 elevation views will be automatically created, and for each floor in each building a plan view will be created
5. Your favorite views. Reorder them to bind up to 5 number keys to your most used views.
6. A group; in this case the views are grouped by label, and the view *Section AA* was assigned the label *Section*
7. Favorite View indicator

Once a view is created it can still be edited. You can choose to keep, update or exclude any of the parameters outlined in the beginning of this article.

## Views for 2D Drawing Generation

The Views panel is the start of any [2D drawing](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/drawings) generated in Qonic. To create views for drawing creation, either:

* Use the automatically generated views mentioned in point (4) above, or
* Create custom views. To generate drawings there is one hard requirement: the view needs to include a **section box**. This contains the necessary information to know the direction, extents and depth of the view being generated.&#x20;

Note that 2D drawings are generated based on the latest public version of the model(s), so make sure to [publish your changes](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/models/model-version-management) before generating the drawings.&#x20;


# Analysing


# Laser Tool

Measure distances on planar faces easily using the laser tool.

1. Under the *Analyse* icon, click *Laser Measure* or use the <kbd>M</kbd> shortcut.
2. Left-click any surface to place the laser origin. From this location, a visible laser line will be shot in the local X- and Y-directions along the indicated surface. The laser line will continue along the surface, even across multiple parts if these parts have surfaces aligned with the indicated face. If available, a laser line perpendicular to the indicated face (local Z-direction) will be shot towards the nearest object. If the surface is not perfectly horizontal or vertical, the slope will be indicated in degrees, and a black arrow will indicate in which the direction surface slopes down.

3. Left-click any surface to place the laser origin in a new location, **or** grab the laser origin by left-clicking and holding, and drag it around for precise placement.&#x20;
4. (optional) Enable the Thickness Measure toggle to measure the thickness of the selected product.

The direction of the laser lines is based on a local analysis of the geometry, and in case of rectangular surfaces with straight angles the laser lines should always align with this surface. For more complex geometry (e.g. a pentagon), you can redirect the laser lines by moving the laser origin close to the edge you want to align with.

# Measure

Measure the shortest distance or the angle between entities, subentities or point

Under the *Analyse* icon, click *Measure.* By default, Object mode is active.

Select two entities in the model. The shortest distance between these entities will be displayed.

Enable the *Vertical (Z)* mode in the command center. Now the shortest vertical distance between the two selected entities will be displayed.

Select another entity. This new entity will now be checked against the entity you selected *last*. You can not have more than two entities selected during this procedure, so the first selected entity will automatically be unselected.&#x20;

It is also possible to measure the shortest distance between *sub*entities, i.e. faces, edges and vertices. To do this, enable [Deep Select](/documentation/qonic-application/basics/navigation-and-selection/selection-modes#deep-select) mode and click the faces, edges and/or vertices you want to measure the distance between. Your selection can be a mix of any of these (sub)entities.&#x20;

Enabling the Angle option will display the angle between two planar faces, two linear edges or a face and an edge. This mode only works with faces and edges, so Deep Select will be automatically enabled.

Switching to Points mode allows you to click any point in your model and find the shortest distance between these points. Click more points to add this to the chain and find the respective distances as well as angles between two subsequent sets of points.&#x20;

Click the XYZ option to break down these distances in their X, Y and Z components.

# Quantify

Use this tool to measure quantities of parts in your model.

1. Select the part(s) you want to take some measurements from
2. Under the *Analyse* icon, click the *Measure* button
3. Choose a calculator
4. (optional) change settings or parameters within the calculator
5. Click Calculate

The result will be displayed, and the measured quantity will be indicated as a blue overlay over the selected parts, to provide visual feedback.

Currently the following calculators are supported: Count, Area, Surface Area, Volume & Length.&#x20;

Let's take a closer look at the different calculators using the following wall as an example. The wall contains two large openings and three smaller openings.

## Count

The Count calculator will return the count of products you have selected. In this case we have one wall selected, so the resulting count is 1.&#x20;

## Area

The Area calculators work best for planar objects such as walls, slabs and roofs. The main faces (i.e. the two faces that are larger relative to the other faces) will be automatically detected and the area in the middle between these two faces will be calculated.&#x20;

The **Net Area** calculator will return the area of the selected product(s), taking into account all openings and features. In our example all 5 openings are subtracted from the total area, resulting in an area of 20.32 m².

The **Gross Area** calculator will return the area of the selected product(s), ignoring all openings and features. In our example all 5 openings are ignored, resulting in an area of 25.53 m².

The **Custom Area** calculator will return the area of the selected product(s), ignoring all openings smaller than a specified area. In our example the three openings smaller than 0.5 m² are ignored, resulting in an area of 20.35 m².

## Surface Area

The **Surface Area** calculator allows to distinguish between the main faces, feature faces and other faces. For planar objects such as walls, slabs and roofs, the main faces are the two faces that are relatively larger than the other faces. For linear objects such as beams, columns, pipes or ducts, the main faces are faces except for the end faces and feature faces. Feature faces are faces pertaining to openings, recesses and other irregularities in the selected part.&#x20;

In the example below, only the surface area for the two main faces is calculated, taking into account all openings leading to a surface area of 40.64 m².

When selecting only feature faces, we can clearly see the different features highlighted. In this case these features have a combined surface area of 2.58 m².

Finally, the other faces in this case are the top, bottom and end faces of the wall, with a total surface area of 4.13 m².

In this calculator it is also possible to ignore voids smaller than a specified area. The main faces of this wall would be defined as follows:

## Volume

The **Net Volume** calculator will return the volume of the selected product(s), taking into account all openings and features. In our example all 5 openings are subtracted from the total volume, resulting in a volume of 3.96 m³.

The **Gross Volume** calculator will return the volume of the selected product(s), ignoring all openings and features. In our example all 5 openings are ignored, resulting in a volume of 4.98 m³.

The **Custom Volume** calculator will return the volume of the selected product(s), ignoring all openings smaller than a specified area. In our example the three openings smaller than 0.5 m² are ignored, resulting in a volume of 3.97 m³.

## Length

The **Length** calculator will return the length of the selected products; this calculator works best for products that are larger in one dimension relative to the other dimensions, such as beams, columns, pipes and ducts.&#x20;

In our example the Length calculator returns the length of the wall of 7977 mm. A blue line indicates how this measurement was taken.&#x20;

# Clash Detection

Use this tool to check for clashes between geometric objects in the model(s).

1. Under the *Analyse* icon, click the *Clash Detection* button
2. Select a first set of objects to scan. The [Browse Panel](/documentation/qonic-application/querying-and-reporting/browse-panel) can be used to set up a structured set of products. The selected objects will be highlighted in green.
3. (optional) Select a second set of objects to scan. The selected objects will be highlighted in blue.&#x20;

If only 1 set is selected, this set will be clashed against itself, i.e. every product in the set will be checked against every other product in that set.\
\
If 2 sets are selected, both sets will be clashed against each other, i.e. every product in set 1 will be checked against every product in set 2.&#x20;

4. (optional) Enable the *'Detect soft clashes'* toggle, and fill in a distance. \
   \
   Fill in a positive value to find all instances where two objects are closer to each other than the given distance, for example to check if the clearance between two objects is large enough.\
   \
   Fill in no value if you want to find all instances where two objects are perfectly touching (i.e. the distances between the two objects is 0). <br>
5. Click *Apply.* A notification will pop up, informing you that the clash detection has started in the background.&#x20;
6. Once the clash check has finished, you will be notified by a notification in the top-right corner of your screen. If clashes were found, they will be grouped in clash groups: hard clashes (objects overlapping) and soft clashes (objects closer to each other than the specified value).
7. Click one of the clash results. Depending on the type of clash, a different visualization will be used:

   1. hard clashes: the two involved products will be colored in green and blue, and the overlapping volume will be displayed in red:\

   2. soft clashes: the two involved products will be colored in green and blue, and the shortest distance between the two products will be indicated with a blue line:\

   **Note:** if one product clashes with multiple products of the same IFC class, these clash results will be grouped together in one single clash, in the assumption that these problems will likely need to be resolved simultaneously.
8. (optional) Resolve the clashes, or create issues from them by clicking the hand icon in the clash result notification, see [Issues Panel](/documentation/qonic-application/querying-and-reporting/issues-panel).&#x20;


# IDS Validation

Check Information Delivery Specifications (IDS) by uploading an .ids file.

1. Under *Analyze*, click *IDS Validation*
2. In the Command Center, click the *Click to upload IDS file* button
3. Select an .ids file from your desktop
4. Press *Enter* or click the *Apply* button.&#x20;

A notification will be displayed in the top-right corner with the results of the check. Each failed check will result in a separate subnotification, which you can individually visualize and/or raise to [issues](/documentation/qonic-application/querying-and-reporting/issues-panel) by clicking the individual hand icons next to each subnotification. Alternatively, you can batch create issues for all failed checks by clicking the hand icon in the header of the notification.

# Create Box

Use this tool to create a simple box.

2. Drag a rectangle to define the base of the box. The drawing plane of the rectangle will be defined by the surface you are drawing on.

4. Left-click or press Enter
5. Drag the arrow to define the height of the box
6. Left-click or press Enter

The box will be a Building Element Proxy with the name 'Simple box'.&#x20;


# Create Cylinder

Use this tool to create a simple cylinder.

4. Left-click or press Enter
5. Drag the arrow to define the height of the cylinder
6. Left-click or press Enter

The cylinder will be a Building Element Proxy with the name 'Simple cylinder'.&#x20;


# Extrude

Create new 3D geometry by extruding one or more faces or closed boundaries.

The Extrude tool lets you turn a surface or closed boundary into a 3D solid.&#x20;

1. Under the *Create* icon, click *Extrude* or use the <kbd>E</kbd> shortcut
2. Click the [face or boundary](https://help.qonic.com/documentation/qonic-application/basics/navigation-and-selection/selection-modes#deep-select) you want to Extrude. The manipulator is dropped onto the selected face/boundary
3. (optional) click additional faces or boundaries to be extruded
4. Click and drag the arrowhead to start Extruding
5. (optional) Enter a precise distance value for the Extrude operation in the input field, or [snap](/documentation/qonic-application/modeling/snapping) to existing geometry
6. Press Enter or left-click anywhere on the screen to accept.


# Loft

Create new 3D geometry by lofting between two or more profiles.

The Loft tool lets you create a new body as a smooth transition between two or more 2D profiles.&#x20;

1. Under the *Create* icon, click *Loft*

3. Click a second face or boundary you want to connect with the first one
4. (optional) click additional faces or boundaries to be included in the Loft.&#x20;
5. Press Enter or left-click anywhere on the screen to accept.

The Sweep tool lets you create a new body by extending a 2D profile along a predefined or custom path.&#x20;

1. Under the *Create* icon, click *Sweep* or use the shortcut <kbd>W</kbd>.&#x20;
2. Highlight a [face or boundary](https://help.qonic.com/documentation/qonic-application/basics/navigation-and-selection/selection-modes#deep-select) you want to start the Sweep operation from. The manipulator, represented by a small sphere, will be displayed at your cursor.
3. On this face or boundary, drop the manipulator on desired anchor point. This point determines the profile's alignment relative to the path.&#x20;
4. Define the sweep path:
   1. Method 1: Follow mode
      1. select an existing edge or chalk curve, **or**
      2. drag the manipulator handle to manually create a new sweep path
      3. (optional) rotate the profile around the first sweep path segment, by interacting with the circle segment displayed at the manipulator
      4. Add more sweep path segments by clicking adjacent edges or further dragging the manipulator.
   2. Method 2: Manipulator mode
      1. (optional) Rotate the profile around the first sweep path segment, by interacting with the circle segment displayed at the manipulator
      2. drag the manipulator handle to start sweeping perpendicular to the sweep profile
      3. interact with the manipulator circle segments to rotate the direction of the sweep path and create new path segments
5. Press Enter or click Apply&#x20;

# Line

Draw a temporary line or arc on an object or on the XY-plane to use in other tools.

A chalk curve is a temporary line or arc that can be drawn on objects or on the XY-plane. To create a chalk curve:

1. Under the *Chalk* icon, click the *Line* button or use the <kbd>L</kbd> shortcut&#x20;
2. Hover your cursor over a face or on the XY-plane
3. Left click, hold and move the cursor to start drawing
4. Release the mouse button to accept
5. (optional) Repeat to create more curves
6. (optional) Hover over a curve until it gets highlighted with a thick black line, and click it to start editing. Use either of the end grips to move the start- or endpoint of the curve, *or* click the middle grip to turn a line into a curve

# Offset

Offset selected face, edges, boundaries or chalk curves by a specified distance.

4. Left click to select the face, edge, chalk curve or boundary
5. (optional) Click more entities to add to your selection set
6. Click and drag the arrowhead to specify a direction and distance to offset
7. (optional) Enter a precise value in the distance field
8. Press Enter or left-click to accept


# Modifying


# Transform

Move, rotate and copy parts freely in any direction, optionally retaining connections with adjacent building elements. Move and rotate faces freely in any direction.

1. Click the *Transform* icon or use the <kbd>T</kbd> shortcut
2. (optional) Enable [Deep Select](/documentation/qonic-application/basics/navigation-and-selection/selection-modes#deep-select) mode if you wish to move faces or bodies instead of entire parts
3. Click the part, face or body you wish to move. This will select the part/face/body and automatically drop the manipulator on that location. You can optionally:
   1. add other parts/faces/bodies to you selection set by clicking them individually. Mixed selection sets are not supported
   2. move the manipulator position by left-clicking and holding its center grip, and dragging it to a new location
   3. hold <kbd>Ctrl</kbd> if you wish to create a copy (not supported for faces)
4. Click and drag any of the arrows or arc segments to start translating and/or rotating
5. (optional) Disable the 'Keep connected' option. Enabling this will make sure connections to adjacent building elements are retained after moving the part
6. Enter a precise distance or angle value for the translation or rotation in one of the input fields, or [snap](/documentation/qonic-application/modeling/snapping) to existing geometry
7. (optional) Press <kbd>Ctrl</kbd> <kbd>D</kbd> repeatedly if you wish to create multiple copies with repeated translation and rotation (not supported for faces)
8. Press Enter or left-click anywhere on the screen to accept


# Push/Pull

Modify existing geometry by push/pulling its faces

Push/Pull is an well known tool in the 3D modeling world, and lets you edit parts by pushing or pulling any face.&#x20;

1. Click the *Push/Pull* icon or use the <kbd>P</kbd> shortcut
2. Click the [face or boundary](https://help.qonic.com/documentation/qonic-application/basics/navigation-and-selection/selection-modes#deep-select) you want to Push/Pull. The manipulator is dropped onto the selected face/boundary
3. (optional) click additional faces or boundaries to be Push/Pulled
4. Click and drag the arrowhead to start Push/Pulling
5. (optional) Enter a precise distance value for the Push/Pull operation in the input field, or [snap](/documentation/qonic-application/modeling/snapping) to existing geometry
6. Press Enter or left-click anywhere on the screen to accept

Currently the following surface types are not supported: spherical, conical, toric, tessellated surfaces.

Alternatively, Push/Pull can be used to create rounded edges (fillets):

1. Click the *Push/Pull* icon or use the <kbd>P</kbd> shortcut
2. Click the edge you want to Push/Pull. The manipulator is dropped onto the selected edge
3. (optional) click additional edges to be Push/Pulled
4. Click and drag the arrowhead to start creating a fillet
5. (optional) Enter a precise radius value for the fillet
6. Press Enter or left-click anywhere on the screen to accept


# Connect

Connect planar building elements such as walls, slabs and roofs.

This tool allows you to connect two or more walls, slabs or roofs that were previously not connected, or change the connection type of the individual layers of these objects.

1. Under the *Modify* icon, click *Connect* or use the <kbd>J</kbd> shortcut
2. Choose a connection type: L or T
3. Click the part you wish to connect to some other part
4. Click the part you wish to connect the first part to. If the products consist of multiple building element parts, the individual building element parts with matching materials will be connected together.
5. (optional) If you want to connect a specific individual material layer to another material layer, hold down the Ctrl key while selecting the parts.

It is possible to automatically connect a selection of multiple walls in one click. To do so, select the walls *before* starting the Connect tool.&#x20;


# Mirror

Mirror parts about a mirror plane.

1. Under *Modify*, click *Mirror*
2. (optional) Enable [Deep Select](/documentation/qonic-application/basics/navigation-and-selection/selection-modes#deep-select) mode if you wish to mirror bodies instead of entire parts
3. Click the parts or bodies you wish to mirror and press *Enter*
4. Click the face around you wish to mirror, or a face parallel to it
5. (optional) Use the manipulator to move the mirror plane to the correct location
6. Press *Enter* to confirm. The selection is mirrored and copied.


# Align

Align parts, bodies or faces by making selected faces coincide with a target surface.

1. Under *Modify*, click *Align* or use the <kbd>A</kbd> shortcut
2. (optional) Enable [Deep Select](/documentation/qonic-application/basics/navigation-and-selection/selection-modes#deep-select) mode if you wish to align faces or bodies instead of entire parts
3. Select the faces, bodies or parts you want to align to another face, and press Enter
4. If your selection consists of bodies or parts, select a source face. This is a face of a body being moved that you want to align with another surface.
5. Select the target face. This is a surface that you want to align your selected objects with.


# Subtract

Subtract the geometry of one selection set from another.

1. Under the *Modify* icon, click *Subtract* or use the <kbd>X</kbd> shortcut
2. Select the parts you wish to modify, these will be highlighted in green. When ready, press Enter
3. Select the parts you wish to subtract from the first selection set, these will be highlighted in blue. When ready, press Enter

> **Hint:** You can use the Browse panel to assist with the selection of either selection set.


# Union

Union the geometry of two or more bodies together in one body.

1. Under the *Modify* icon, click *Union* or use the <kbd>U</kbd> shortcut
2. Select the bodies or parts you wish to union, these will be highlighted in green. When ready, press Enter
3. Select the destination part you want all selected bodies to be merged to. The resulting part will have all properties and attributes of this selected part. All bodies that are touching will be merged together into one single solid. This is irreversible.


# Slice

Slice a selection set by one or more surfaces.

1. Under the *Modify* icon, click *Slice* or use the <kbd>S</kbd> shortcut
2. Select the parts you want to slice, and press Enter
3. Specify your slicing planes:
   1. Method 1: Slice by Surface
      1. Drop the manipulator on the surface you want to use as slicing plane, or on a surface parallel with it
      2. (optional) Drag the arrowhead to move the slicing plane to the desired location. You can use the input fields to specify precise distance values, or enable Snapping to align with an existing surface or edge in the model
      3. (optional) Hit Ctrl + D to duplicate the slicing plane. The new slicing plane will be automatically offset over the same distance that the previous plane was moved to, but you can still adjust its position manually by dragging the arrowhead
   2. Method 2: Slice by [Chalk Curves](/documentation/qonic-application/modeling/creating/line) (only applicable if chalk curves are present on a face of the selection)
      1. Click the chalk curves you want to slice along. This can be a collection of loose curves or a chain of curves.
      2. A preview of the slicing planes based on the selected chalk curves will be shown
4. (optional) Enable the 'Keep as assembly' toggle. This will turn the slice results into Building Element Parts grouped in an assembly which keeps the original product's Name, GUID and other properties.&#x20;
5. Press Enter or click Apply&#x20;

If the sliced product is part of a larger assembly, they will be sliced into parts but they will still remain part of the parent product. Use the [Assembly Editing](/documentation/qonic-application/modeling/modifying/assembly-editing) tools to manage how the parts relate to each other.&#x20;

# Stretch

Use the manipulator to resize doors and windows.

Resize windows and doors directly in the model. Grab a side face of the window frame or a mullion and use the manipulator to specify a distance. Relevant context will automatically be stretched with it. If an array is detected you have the option to extend the array or stretch the array.

1. Under the *Modify* icon, click *Stretch* or use the <kbd>H</kbd> shortcut
2. Drop the manipulator on an inner or outer face of the window or door frame, so that the manipulator is aligned with the plane of the wall (i.e. the manipulator is **not** perpendicular to the wall)
3. (optional) Add or remove context that you want to stretch along. This context could be anything that is related to the window or door, but it is not modelled as part of the assembly or product. Typical examples include window sills, lintels, railings etc. If relevant context is automatically detected it will be highlighted in blue. You can click the highlighted details to deselect them, or click other products to add them to the context.
4. Click and drag the arrowhead to start Stretching
5. (optional) Enter a precise distance value for the Stretch operation in the input field, or [snap](https://help.qonic.com/documentation/qonic-application/modeling/snapping) to existing geometry
6. (optional) If repetitive geometry is found in your selection, you will be given the option to Extend Arrays. This will maintain the spacing between repetitive geometry and add more repetitions of this geometry during the Stretch operation.&#x20;
7. Press Enter or left-click anywhere on the screen to accept.&#x20;

The Stretch operation will **not** simply stretch all geometry along the indicated axis. Instead, it will temporarily apply constraints to the geometry so that the frame thickness will be maintained while resizing the door or window.&#x20;

# Copy & Pasting Details

Copy details from one window or door to other windows or doors.

Use this tool copy details from one window or door to other windows or doors. The details should **not** be defined inside the window or door assembly - they should be separate products, within close proximity of the door or window. Typical examples may include a sill, lintel, separate framing objects or wall finishes inside the window reveals.&#x20;

These objects may be manufactured, installed, quantified, ... by *separate* stakeholders. To avoid a combinatorial explosion of possible configurations of window types, sill types, lintel types..., the objects should be allowed to be modelled separately. For easy propagation of such details to other windows/doors in your project, the Copy/Paste Details tool can be used.

#### Copy Details

1. Under the *Detail* icon, click *Details > Copy Details*
2. Click a window/door that has context or details surrounding it. These details should be **separate** objects from the window/door. The window/door will be highlighted in green; if any details are automatically detected they will highlighted in blue.
3. (optional) add or remove details to your selection set by left-clicking them.
4. Press Enter. The details are now copied to your clipboard.

#### Paste Details

The Paste Details tool is only available if there are valid items on the clipboard, see Copy Details.

1. Under the *Detail* icon, click *Details > Paste Details*
2. Click one or more windows/doors you wish to paste these details *to*
3. Press *Enter*. A preview of the details applied to the selected windows/doors will be shown
4. (optional) Left-click any of the windows/doors to flip the orientation of the detail, should it not be correct
5. Press *Enter*. The details are now applied.


# Assembly Editing

Manually adjust hierarchical relations between parts by creating and dissolving assemblies, or by adding and removing parts to and from assemblies.

Qonic supports hierarchical relations between parts in the form of assemblies. For example, a curtain wall could consist of members and plates, or a staircase could consist of stair flights, slabs and railings. Nested assemblies are also supported; the railing in the aforementioned staircase could in turn consist of some plates and members. To see hierarchical relations between parts, select the parts and open the [Inspect panel](/documentation/qonic-application/querying-and-reporting/inspect-panel). In the image below, a stair is selected consisting of 2 stair flights, a slab and a railing, which in turn consists of 13 members and 4 plates.

# Create Assembly

This tool allows you to create a new assembly by selecting one or more parts that belong together.

1. Select one or more parts
2. Under *Modify*, click *Assembly* and then click *Create Assembly*
3. From the dropdown, choose the IFC class of your new assembly

The selected parts will now be part of an assembly of the selected IFC class. If an assembly is part of your selection set, it will be incorporated into the new assembly as a whole.&#x20;

If a subset of an existing assembly is part of your selection set, its relation with its original assembly will be broken and it will become part of the newly created assembly.

# Add to Assembly

This tool allows you to add new parts to an already existing assembly.

1. Select one assembly
2. Under *Modify*, click *Assembly* and then click *Add to Assembly*
3. Select one or more parts to add to this assembly, and press Enter

The selected parts will now be added to the existing assembly.&#x20;

If an assembly is part of your selection set, it will be incorporated into the new assembly as a whole.&#x20;

# Remove from Assemblies

This tool allows you to remove one or more parts from their assemblies.

1. Select one or more parts of an assembly. **Tip:** to select subassemblies in the model view, double-click to dig one level deeper, triple-click to dig another level deeper and so on. Alternatively, click and hold the left mouse button until you reach the level of the assembly you want to select. Finally, if you are only interested in the lowest level of the assembly, hold Ctrl and left-click.&#x20;
2. Under *Modify*, click *Assembly* and then click *Remove from Assemblies*

The selected parts will now be taken out of their respective assemblies. If you remove a subassembly from an existing assembly, the subassembly will still remain intact.

If you remove parts from a lower level in a nested assembly, the removed parts will move up one level in the assembly tree.

# Dissolve Assemblies

This tool allows you to dissolve the hierarchical relation between two or more parts.

1. Select one or more assemblies
2. Under *Modify*, click *Assembly* and then click *Dissolve Assemblies*

The selected assemblies will now be dissolved. If you dissolve an assembly with multiple levels, only the top level of the assembly will be dissolved.

If you dissolve a subassembly within an assembly, the resulting dissolved parts will still be part of the top level assembly.

# Split Products

Split a product consisting of multiple bodies into its constituent bodies.

1. Under *Modify*, click *Assembly* and then click *Split Products*
2. Select the products you wish to split
3. (optional) Enable the 'Keep as assembly' toggle. This will turn the split bodies into Building Element Parts grouped in an assembly which keeps the original product's Name, GUID and other properties.&#x20;
4. Press Enter or click Apply. If the selected product only contains one piece of geometry (one body), nothing will happen. If the selected product contains multiple bodies, each separate body will become a new product with the properties and attributes of the originally selected product.&#x20;

# Merge Products

Merge multiple existing products into one single product while maintaining separate bodies.

1. Under *Modify*, click *Assembly* and then click *Merge Products*
2. Select the different parts you wish to merge into a single product. When ready, press Enter
3. Select the destination part you want all selected parts to be merged to. The resulting part will have all properties and attributes of this selected part. In contrast to the [Union](/documentation/qonic-application/modeling/modifying/union) tool, all bodies will remain separated; these bodies can still be accessed using the [Deep Select](/documentation/qonic-application/basics/navigation-and-selection/selection-modes) function.&#x20;


# Material Layer Editing


# Split into Layers

Split a wall, slab or roof with an underlying material structure to access the individual layers of materials.

1. Under the *Detail* icon, click *Split into Layers*
2. Select one or more walls, roofs or slabs, and press Enter
3. (optional) click the preview to flip the layer structure before splitting.\
   **Note:** if several adjacent walls with the same layer structure are detected, the preview will combine them so you can easily flip a set of walls together instead of individually.
4. Click *Apply* or press *Enter*


# Strip to Layer

Remove all but one material layer of a wall, slab of roof.

1. Under the *Detail* icon, click *Strip to Layer*
2. Select one or more walls, slabs or roofs. Make sure all selected parts have at least one material in common, and this material does not occur more than once in one product. If the product has an internal layer structure, you will need to use Split into Layers first for this tool to work
3. Choose the material you want to keep
4. Click *Apply* or press *Enter*&#x20;


# Replace with Layer

Apply a new material and change thickness of a wall, slab or roof

Use this tool to apply a new material and change the thickness of a wall, slab or roof. If your wall, slab or roof will consist of multiple material layers, choose one to be the ‘core’ layer. Typically this will be the structural layer, e.g. bricks in a cavity wall or studs in a stud wall. &#x20;

1. Under the *Detail* icon, click *Replace with Layer*&#x20;
2. Select one or more walls, roofs or slabs&#x20;
3. Choose a material. Your [project material libraries](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/libraries/material-libraries) will be displayed here, as well as the materials already in the currently open model.
4. Enter a thickness&#x20;
5. (optional) Click 'show preview'. The selected walls will now become transparent, and a preview of the new material will be visible on top of it. Hovering the cursor over this preview will highlight it in blue. Left-click the highlighted preview to change the alignment if the thickness has changed.\
   **Note:** previews of adjacent walls will be grouped together so that you can change the alignment of multiple walls at the same time.&#x20;
6. Click *Apply* or press *Enter*&#x20;

The new material and thickness will now be applied to the selected building elements.


# Add Layer

This tool allows you to easily add new material layers such as insulation layers, wall or floor finishes to existing building elements. Note that building elements with an internal layer structure need to be split first before being able to add new layers. Use the [Split Into Layers](/documentation/qonic-application/modeling/modifying/material-layer-editing/split-into-layers) tool for this.

1. Under the *Detail* icon, click *Add Layer*&#x20;
2. Choose a material. Your [project material libraries](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/libraries/material-libraries) will be displayed here, as well as the materials already in the currently open model
3. Enter a thickness&#x20;
4. (Optional) enable the ‘Flow through openings’ setting. A use case for this setting is when adding a layer to a floor slab and there is a door opening between two rooms. When this setting enabled, the newly added layer in one room will flow through the door opening so that the new layer is also added to the second room. Disable this setting if you want two different floor finishes in the two rooms. &#x20;
5. Click on a product to add the chosen layer. Works best on planar objects like walls, slabs and roofs. Curved surfaces such as cylindrical or spline surfaces are also supported.
6. (Optional) after adding a layer to one wall in a room, the option will appear to apply this same layer to the rest of the room. If you choose to apply this, the next layer you add will automatically be added to the entire room.&#x20;

The layers that you add will become part of the existing building element, while still allowing you to edit them individually.&#x20;

It is possible to add a layer to multiple coplanar walls or slabs at once. The layers will then automatically be split up into individual parts belonging to their respective walls or slabs.


# Flip Layers

Flip the material layer order of a wall, slab or roof.

To flip the layer order of a wall, slab or roof:

1. Under the *Detail* icon, click *Flip Layers*
2. Click the wall, slab or roof you wish to flip\
   **Note:** You may first have to split the wall, slab or roof into its respective parts. Use the [Split Into Layers](/documentation/qonic-application/modeling/modifying/material-layer-editing/split-into-layers) tool for this.


# Correcting scattered models

You can use Qonic to relocate models that have incorrect coordinates.

When opening multiple models simultaneously, it may occur that one or more models are positioned far away from the other models. This could be caused by a wrong export setting in the original authoring software, or because of miscommunication between different stakeholders. If this happens you will be notified by a dialog box, indicating the rough coordinates of each model. In the image below, all models are located around the coordinate system origin (x = 0, y = 0, z = 0) except for the architectural model which is located around x = 418 miles and y = 79 miles. You can select one or more models that are located far away and, if you have the appropriate editing rights, bring them closer to the other models.

Once this step is complete, the selected models will be moved closer to the other models. **This will only be a rough reposition**, i.e. you will still need to move (and possibly rotate) the model(s) to move them to their proper location. You can use the [Align](/documentation/qonic-application/modeling/modifying/align) tool and/or the [Transform](/documentation/qonic-application/modeling/modifying/transform) tool for this.


# Components

Learn how to create and use components across your projects.

A component is a reusable definition - a window, a door, a piece of furniture, an MEP terminal - that you create once and instance many times. The result is models that are faster to assemble and easier to keep coherent.

## Creating components

To start creating your own components in the Qonic app, open the Components Panel on the right hand side, or use the shortcut <kbd>Shift</kbd> <kbd>o</kbd>. Here you will see a list of all component libraries in your current project if there are any. Click the ellipsis button next to a library to edit its name or delete it, or click the library name to open it and access the components inside.&#x20;

Use the green <kbd>+</kbd> button at the bottom of this panel to create a new components library.&#x20;

Once inside a library you can start saving components. Use the green <kbd>+</kbd> button at the bottom of this panel to create a new component. You will be prompted with a window to choose a Name, an IFC Class (this will be automatically filled in based on your selection) and optionally some tags and a description. You can still specify in which library to add this component. Select the object in your model you want to save as a component, and click Create.&#x20;

You can only select a single product as the definition of your component. If you want to save a group of products as a component, create an [assembly](/documentation/qonic-application/modeling/modifying/assembly-editing) of these products first.

The newly created component will now be listed in your library. The product you selected for the creation of the component will automatically become an instance of this component.

## Placing components

To place a component, simply drag and drop the component from the components panel into your model, or click the ellipsis next to the component name and choose Insert.

The inserted component will follow the orientation of the object you used to create the component. Basic logic is applied to position hosted components like windows and doors. More advanced placement logic is being developed and will be added to Qonic soon.

## Managing components

An inserted component in effectively an instance of a component definition. The instance remains linked to the component definition. Whether a product is linked to a component definition (i.e. this product is a component instance) can be seen in the [Inspect panel](/documentation/qonic-application/querying-and-reporting/inspect-panel). An additional field will be displayed indicating the component it is referring to.&#x20;

If a component **instance** was modified so that it deviates from the component **definition** (e.g. you edited its geometry or changed a property value), this will be automatically detected and indicated by this blue icon in the inspect panel.

When this is the case, you can choose to **reset** this component instance. The instance will again become an exact copy of the initial component definition, any changes made to this instance will be undone.&#x20;

You can at any time **unlink** an instance from its definition. This will break the link, meaning that you will no longer be able to reset the instance or visit the component definition.

If a component definition has been removed or edited, this will be indicated in the instance's properties in the inspect panel by a yellow triangle.

From the components panel you have the options to insert a new component instance, select all instances of a component, edit the component name or description, delete the component definition, and find all unlinked products. This tool will scan your entire model for exact geometric matches of products with the component definition

If any matches are found, they will be selected and you will have the option to convert these matches to component instances, essentially (re)linking the instances and the definition.

Component libraries **do not** follow the versioning and publishing flow that other libraries in Qonic do. When creating, modifying and deleting components and component libraries, this happens in real time. Other collaborators will see your components without you needing to publish any changes.

## Component Variants

Clicking a component name in the components panel will open the component details, listing the different variants of this component. Use variants to list e.g. doors with different sizes or furniture with different material variations. When creating a new component, it will by default only have one variant.

To create a new variant, go to one of the component instances, and make the desired modifications. As soon as you modify a component instance, this modification will be indicated in the Inspect Panel.

When a component instance is modified (i.e. it deviates from its definition), you will have the option to create a new variant from this. Select the modified instance and open up the right-click menu.&#x20;

This will prompt you to enter a name and optionally more tags for this new variant.

Repeat this step for every variant you wish to make. Each variant will be listed under the component details. You can now insert any of these variants directly into your model, and set one of these new variants as the default for this component. The default variant is the one that will be inserted if you do not specify which variant to use.&#x20;

If a component definition has more that one variant, you can swap out component instances with variations of its definition. Select the instances you want to replace, and in the right-click menu choose Replace with Variant.

This allows you to pick from all available variants for this component, and replace your selection with this specific variant.&#x20;

# Snapping

Snap to other geometry during modeling operations

To enable or disable snapping, use the Snapping toggle in the bottom toolbar or use the shortcut <kbd>Ctrl</kbd> +<kbd>Shift</kbd> + <kbd>S</kbd>.&#x20;

Qonic supports three types of snapping during modeling operations.

* Picking of a point on a surface or an edge, for example when selecting a starting point when creating new geometry. Supported snapping point are vertices and edges of existing geometry, as well as cylinder axis endpoints. The manipulator handle will be highlighted in blue to indicate it is snapping to something. Extension lines of existing edges will be highlighted in purple. The manipulator will display a grey disc to indicate the active plane.

* Picking a plane when doing a modeling operation along one axis, for example when push/pulling a face or moving a body in a given direction. Supported snap targets are surfaces parallel to the selected face, or clusters of vertices, edges, edge midpoints, chalk curves and/or cylinder axes in a plane parallel to the selected face. The selected face will be highlighted in green, and the active snap target(s) will be highlighted in blue for clear visual feedback about what you are aligning the selected face with.\
  Note that the calculation of the possible snap targets per modeling operation happens in the background and can sometimes take a few seconds. This means on larger models, the snapping will only kick in after these calculations are done.\
  Also note that in larger models, there may be an 'overwhelming' number of possible snap targets depending on the operation you are doing. Therefore snap targets are ranked and filtered on relevance, based on factors such as&#x20;

  * Scale - larger objects are more likely to be relevant than smaller objects,&#x20;
  * IFC class - when moving a wall, you don't necessarily want to align with a chair or lamp,
  * Proximity to the selected object - closer objects will likely be more relevant,
  * Proximity to the camera - closer objects will likely be more relevant.

  If you want to align with a specific surface, but the surface doesn't show up as snap target - either because the calculation hasn't finished yet or because it was filtered out because of the above factors - you can still override this by hovering your cursor over the surface until it is highlighted in blue. Left-clicking the highlighted face will pick that face as the new snap target. \
  This type of snapping can be disabled by going to your profile in the top-right corner and under *Settings* disabling the *Snapping* toggle.&#x20;

<summary><strong>What are the supported file formats?</strong> </summary>

Currently supported file types are .ifc, .3dm (Rhino3D), .skp (SketchUp) and .rvt (Autodesk Revit versions 2024 - 2027). Revit models can also be imported through the [Qonic plugin for Revit](https://www.qonic.com/downloads). Note that if a Revit upload through the dashboard fails, it is recommended to try again using the plugin. The file size limitations are as follows:

* .ifc import: 5GB file size limit, process timeout of 1 hour.
* .3dm import: 5GB file size limit, process timeout of 1 hour.
* .skp import: 5GB file size limit, process timeout of 1 hour.
* .rvt import through the **dashboard**: 256MB file size limit, process timeout of 30 mins.
* .rvt import through the [Qonic plugin for Revit](https://www.qonic.com/downloads/): no file size limit, although once converted to Qonic the resulting data of the model cannot exceed 4GB. A Revit model imported through the Qonic plugin for Revit can be edited, and the changes can be pushed back to the original Revit model through the same plugin.

<summary><strong>Qonic crashes in the web browser. What's going on?</strong></summary>

Dealing with complex geometry demands significant memory resources. Web browsers have limitations on memory usage. Hence, we strongly advise utilizing the Qonic desktop application for a smoother experience.

When approaching the memory limit of your browser, you will be notified in the following order:

1. **First stage:** Your model is approaching the memory limit of the web browser. We suggest to continue your work using the Qonic app.
2. **Second stage:** Your model has almost reached the memory limit of the web browser. We have activated read-only mode. Please continue your work using the Qonic app.
3. **Third stage:** Your model has reached the memory limit of the web browser. Please restart Qonic.

<summary><strong>What are Qonic's hardware recommendations?</strong></summary>

Since Qonic can run in a web browser, you don't need a very powerful workstation to use it. Sufficient RAM and a dedicated GPU are recommended, but any modern laptop or desktop pc should suffice.&#x20;

To enhance performance, ensure your graphics drivers are updated and enable WebGL and hardware acceleration in your chosen browser. Additionally, Qonic offers desktop applications for both MacOS and Windows.

Qonic currently supports these browsers:

* Google Chrome
* Microsoft Edge

To optimize your Qonic experience for peak performance, please follow these steps:

1. Make sure your graphics drivers are up-to-date with the latest version from the manufacturer.
2. Confirm that your preferred web browser not only has **WebGL enabled** but also has **hardware acceleration** turned on. This will help ensure you're using the highest performing configuration possible.

<summary><strong>My model shows a red warning triangle and I cannot open it. What do I do?</strong></summary>

This means the model failed to process. This can happen because of many reasons; maybe the file is too large, or it contains some geometry or other data that causes a failure. Our system should pick this up so that our development team is automatically notified of any failures. If you want to be sure, you can always file a support ticket.

<summary><strong>Why can't I edit some models?</strong></summary>

The top-left corner indicates if a model is opened in read only mode, or if multiple models are opened.

**Read Only** - this means either:

* You only have viewing rights to the model. Contact the model owner or project administrator to ask for editing rights.
* You have opened an older version of the model. Read the article on [Model Version Management](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/models/model-version-management) for more information about model versions.
* You are approaching the memory limit of your web browser. To prevent a crash your session was automatically set to read-only. This will be indicated in a banner at the top of your screen.

**Multimodel:** if you have multiple models open at once, only one of the models will be editable. Click the *Multimodel* button in the top-left corner to change the active model.

<summary><strong>When opening my model, I get the message “Processing model changes, please reload in a few minutes”. What does this mean?</strong></summary>

This means you or someone else has just published their changes in this model to the server. Depending on the size of the model, this may take a few seconds to several minutes to fully process. If this message persists for longer than half an hour, this may indicate that your personal version of the model got damaged. Try [reverting](/documentation/qonic-dashboard/models/model-version-management#accessing-the-version-history-of-a-model) back to a previous version of the model.

If you start the Qonic Client application from your desktop, it will instead open up your web browser on the page [app.qonic.com/projects](https://app.qonic.com/projects). From there you are able to open models, either in the web browser or in the desktop application.&#x20;
